Hi,

Has anyone else seen this problem?
Magna TH wagon. The volume of fuel as shown by the pump at tank refill, full to full, is consistantly about 4% less than the volume shown by the trip computer over the identical distance. I have checked this over about 8 tank fill ups, all starting from about 3/4 empty. I reset the computer after filling up.
What made me look was the fuel consumption given by the computer had increased by, you guessed it, about 4% over the same running and a reasonable period. At first I blamed the fuel and checked to make sure that it did not contain ethanol. It did not. Virtually all fuel was bought at the same Caltex servo. I am now happy that it is not fuel quality related.

How is the fuel volume measured by the computer? There does not seem to be a flow meter.

yeah i agree, try reseting it, and make sure its set to S for sedan or W for wagon, and 3 or 3.5L
worth a shot. i was under the impression that the computer would be more correct than a fuel gauge, as i here they are a common fault. well with the fuel sender in the tank

i'm not 100% sure with the magnas but the systems i know of go on the length of the injector pulse ( the ecm is programed to know how much fuel is injected per pulse) thats why they are not accurate because they don't factor in things like fuel temp or that u might have an injector that injects slightly more than another etc etc

there is a chance the system is just off. My tj's trip computer went nuts after a service. It was serviced by the mitsubishi dealer it was purchased from new and they fried something! everything still works fine except the range to empty. I could be under 1/4 tank on the gauge and it will tell me i have over 450km left. Thats halfway to melbourne on under a quarter tank! Its not too bad since i have the gauge, but it was nice when it worked,

Might just be a matter of resetting the computer somehow. If anybody knows a way to do it it would help me out too

Disconnect battery, reconnect battery, then press and hold the mode button and choose the mode that suits your car. Press and hold mode again and done.
