I dunno wtf is going on but I just took out my headlight and indicator to replace my left guard and when I went and put the headlight back in and reconnected the battery I found my instrument cluster is alive like I have the headlights turned on but they aren't. I've taken them back out again and checked they were plugged in properly but still have the same problem.
Anyone got any ideas

You may have shorted the headlight connector. Unplug them and have a close look. Something is tricking the system into thinking that the headlights are on.

Yeah I unplugged everything and doubled checked over it all and it fixed it'self for a little while but then coming out of the shops i noticed the left headlight (the one i removed originally) was on and when I got back in the car so was the instrument cluster. So I have no idea now!

My dash/instrument lights are always on. (Headlights on or off)
I just thought this is what the 3rd gens did. Isn't it?

i dont think its all 3rd gens. maybe TJ and after do. but then again, my girlfriends parents S1TJ doesnt do it, but my S2TJ does.
not sure.
maybe there is something wrong with your switch. checked all fuses?
Series 2 TJ Magna's and KH on in Verada's have always "on" clusters.
As to what the problem is here, I've no idea, ask an auto elec maybe?

Yeah I put it into an auto electrician this morning. This is only the second time I've had someone else doing work on my car, I've done everything else myself so I'm pretty bummed I had to resort to it but I don't wanna butcher it and it end up costing me a ****load more.

thats new, I couldnt imagine us members here not knowing the issue.
Mine only turns on when headlights are on. Yes I will see Engine when first start but they go off after.
Speedo lights are off when not in use.

Haven't checked which model your car is, but had a qucik glance at Wiring Diagrams for TJ Magna base-model - there are seperate relays for Lo-beam and Hi-beam..... I just wondered whether you had a relay "sticking" and occasionally not releasing power ----- but that probably doesn't explain why only the Left Headlamp stayed lit.
If you fiddle with the Lights column switch, does that have any effect? Poor or worn contacts in the switch?
Otherwise I'd be tracing the loom from power/battery to fuse blocks and relays, light switch to lamps - looking for damage and possible shorts. Sounds like a poo job - Good luck.
NINJA EDIT: Only just noticed you've put it in with Auto-Electrician - good move, hope they can fix and not too exxxy for you.

Hey well at least it got fixed. I got my SRS light cleared only for it to reappear. Cost me $60 for the guy's time and nothing was done to my car. All i know is that something is up which is strange as Mal reconnected everything and i saw him do it.
