i own a 90 magna EFI with 290000ks on the clock you may think thats high but she still runs sweet i could do with more performance though so i just opend a thread in hopes that i could get prices on a better air box, extractors and a better exhaust though i just found out yesterday that i have a lukey performance exhaust :) for the front muffler but i need a rear to get some beats from the back and the car blows a bit of smoke and idles rough for 5 secs until the smoke has cleared its white smoke on cold and warm startup and i was wandering if anyone would no something about that i think its the valve stem seals can someone please tell me anything about there magnas as well thanks

Think you gotta put a whole bottle of this honey-like liquid into you oil. Think its called smoke remover or something like that and you wont have any white smoke coming from your exhaust. Someone may want to confirm this but I'm pretty sure this exact same thing happened to my bros car only 2 weeks ago and he mixed a honey-like liquid into his oil and it fixed the smoke problem. Personally if your car has done that many kms I wouldnt bother trying to mod it. With the amount of money you would be spending you could easily upgrade to a 2nd gen magna with less kms or wait a while and buy a TE. I have seen TR's in good condition for around $2,000 and TE's for around $6500. Up to you I suppose but 290,000kms is an awfully high amount. Your engine would be underperforming purely due to how far its travelled and how worn out it now is. I wouldnt bother moddying at this stage. All i would get if anything would be a K & N panel filter. At least that way you can transfer it to your next car.

The 2nd thing I should say is if you have a 2.6L magna that is an auto it will go quite a lot slower than the manuals. This is another reason why I wouldnt get too carried away with moddying an auto with 290,000kms that is almost 15 years old. If you are that keen on something with more power and have a small budget which I assume you do at your age, I would seriously keep you current car for a year or so and work and earn even around $3500 this year -> Go buy a V6 TR/TS Magna (1993-1996) for $3500 with less kms. Your car will be a new shape and have better features and will go from 98kw at the engine and being an auto to just under 130kw at the engine and being an manual. Also your fuel consumption will pretty much be identical as the 4 cyclinder magnas drink ever so slightly less petrol than the 3L v6's but its pretty much identical. The $2,000 that you have to work with ( sell your car for around $1500 if your lucky and buy one for $3500 if your lucky) is probably the cheapest best way to drive a more powerful car. If you were to get extractors, a CAI and K & N pod/panel filter plus say tinting on your current car that would cost you around $1000. Just something to think about.
Go buy a V6 TR/TS Magna (1993-1996) for $3500 with less kms. I dunno where the hell you live, but ive never seen a tr/ts v6 for under $5000, and thats private sale, and those ones were the auto ones with 300,000 on the clock

I've never seen V6 second gens for that cheap either. But I agree with cheif, theres no real point or sense in spending a few dollars on an old car with high km's. I spent a bit of money on my old TP and now that I look back I see I definitely would have been better off saving that money and putting it towards my TF that I have now, I regret having spent money on it, although I didn't think that at the time. Any money you spend on a car is dead money, cause chances are you'll never see it again, and mods don't really help resale value, so your best of spending money on a good car that your planning on having for a while. Just my 2 cents.

V6 magna (http://www.carsales.com.au/pls/carsales/!cs_content.private_vehicle?vehicle_id=120385¤t_rec=51&total_rec=166&sort_type=3&price_max=10000&make_id=3&model_id=57&search_distance=25)
This is just one I found off the internet. I have seen ones like this in the papers etc. This one is $3500 for a v6 Manual with 200,000kms in excellent condition with a/c, p/s, p/w, alloy wheels, body coloured bumpers and central locking

i see where you guys are coming from but the head was recond 40000ks ago and i know a guy who can do the rings springs gaskets and all the other small things for 500 buks so if i run into trouble with the engine than thats what i can do but i will say thanks for caring and also the body on the car has had a respray so its not the original crappy paint that melts away from the sun i have found a price though 2 and quarter inch sports exhaust 200 buks a high flow cat converter 240 buks and lukey extractors 300 it may be my first car and sure if i crash it i will be f*ken very pissed off but my dad paid for the car so i sort off wanna put some of my own money in it and if its working when i sell it in a few at least ive raised the value of it somewhat and i have tried all the nulon stuff my car used to use oil but it doesnt anymore but it still blows smoke especially if you accelerate to much of the line does anyone know much about changing the fuel sender units on the tp magna i found 1 for 25 buks and im gonna get a gasket for its for another 25 from mitsubitshi thanks for the help so far

Okay dude. Just so you know an 2.6L auto with $2000 worth of mods and huge amounts of kms will not even come close to a 3.0L stock manual which would have less kms and a better look inside and out not to mention a better resale value. My advice - Mod your car if you want but keep it simple. It's easy to get carried away. You will realise in 2 years time if for example you wish to sell your car that you will have to offer less or around the same (depending on how much you actually did paid for it )than what you originally paid for it stock 2 years ago even tho uve spent $1000 worth of mods. Hope I don't totally turn you off moddying your car. Just trying to let you know beforehand. Hope it goes well for you ;)

hah, yer, think about it though, efi 2.6, its got potential, just need to get a little work done and kablamo it will rock!
do it do it do it!!!!11
now, too see one dumped, 17's and a nice new paint job, and a nice worked engine and i would be happy
i saw one today, i thought it was an old skyline at first cause he had skyline styled rear tail lights, i made a post about it in the qld section. big rims, fancy aqua paint but it was parked, i was tempted to pull over and kick the living **** out of it or take a foto but i was late for something and i had no camera.

did u say ur car was auto or manual?
with efi, the best thing to do is get a better airfilter. K and N are pretty decent, or get a uni filter. they may cost around $80 or so but they last so much longer than the stock ones so its worth it in the long run anyway.
change all the oils and fluids. e.g. gearbox oil (manual), engine oil (thicker stuff... maybe 40w70 with that many k's on the clock), bleed the brakes and clutch and fill with new fluid. maybe new distributor cap and spark plugs and leads. its better to get ur car feeling and running alot nicer before u do any mods. i did all that and im quite happy with my car as it is.
but yeah, next thing after all that would probably be exhaust. ive read around on a fair few forums and it seems as though 2" piping is sufficient with a quality muffler (lukey most probably). that'll still give u a nice growl. then extractors aswell would do nicely. im not sure what else to do to an efi other than turbo it, i dont read up about it since my car is carby :D hope what ive said has helped though
yeh all im gonna do is the exhaust - headers, highflow cat and 2 1/4 piping and a lukey straight through and if i can - get cold air on it and that'd be it, then maybe a bigger throttle body and if im too rich and dumb polished ports or something. Only with catback at the moment there really isnt much of a difference but it does rev a little quicker but its probably in my head since you'd only see a gain from headers not catback cause the bottleneck of the exhaust is right at the engine so having a catback wouldnt do anything but give you more presence. the burble is cool too.

i changed the spark plugs 4 months ago when i first got the car but im thinking of putting bosh supper 4 plugs in it and i changed the leads 1 month ago i am running the car on penrite 50 which is the thisckest oil i could find and i changed the oil 1 week ago as well as the oil filter i am gonna flush the radiator very soon and i do need new brake fluid but i think my oxy sensor is on its way out cause it idles a lil rough and its idling very slow cause i had the idle speed control valve done and the efi guy brought it down to 800 in park and since the cars idling rough its a little bit annoying at the trafic lights but it wont stall its just annoying does anyone no how to adjust the base idle on the magnas i did try the idle screw but the idle is set so it will idle up but when i stop it will drop back to the set idle when i start the car moving it idles back up and does anyone know why when i leave the car off for about 2 hours it takes a few more turns of the motor to kick it over but when its cold or hot turns over in 1 sec i think it might be related to the valve stem seals needing done
Is he a mate of Rallyartgsr?
i think one of characteristics of a bad oxy sensor is that it loses power immideiately as you accelerate, maybe why your stalling?
i know my car can require alot of revs to go, gf doesnt give it enough and the cars idle drops low and the car vibrates badly. I tell her to give it more, and she doesnt!!!
i need a new oxy sensor, damn money

I own a 91 TP and she has 255000 k's on and we have had it 5 yrs and just reco'd the head after it started blowing smoke at start up, slowly it gets worse and no amount of honey is gonna stop it, I would say yours is due for a re co to dude.
The older magnas arent as quick or as flash as the new ones but they are sweet in there own way! But hell Im biased.
We have extractors on our old girl and they cost around $350 for lukeys and new heavy duty rear springs from king springs have made the ride a lot less like a bus and more like a car, which in turn with a set of 15 inch mags has lead to less tyre chewing and it looks nicer too!!!
We are currently looking at a 2 inch pipe for it and that will be around the $300 mark too.
I have a lot of cosmetic changes to my ride like sports steering wheels and a nice sound system stuff like that but if you like your ride its worth doing it up, the looks and comments I get because my car is in good condition rather than looking like a work horse makes it all worth while !!

i brought the car and the head was reconditioned 2 years ago and 40000ks ago so i think its the valve stems cause my grandad had the same prob with his car and its got 170000ks on it 91 tp model and it runs very sweet but it started blowing smoke so he got the valve stems done and no more smoke

I have a 1990 TP Executive EFI that has a Tachometer that works now and then. The greatest probability is IF it was a cold day. So, it appears that the issue is more connectivity than a faulty part.
I agree that the key to success is checking the "White wire" that goes into the dash. I have the Gregory's Manual and this wire (shielded) comes from the Innition Coil / Transistor in the Engine Bay. I trust that the signal is not coming from the transistor owing to connectivity of the jacketed connecter.
Thoughts?
