I am not having a go at anyone here however.....

Today I removed a Ralliart steering wheel from a members Verada to place it on the TF Sports they also have. Now they purchased the Verada some 8 months ago with this steering wheel already fitted

Now the scary part. The LHS torque screw was mising and had been replaced with a self tapping cheap screw that would not have held given it was not even the correct thread. The RHS side one was about to fall out as it had not been properly tightened. Should the bag have delployed for any reason the chances are the force of the initial thruse would have rebounded the complete unit off the wheel straight through the drivers head or chest

This was one of the most stupid and careless things I have seen in many years not to mention simply dangerous.

Please, I emplore on all members, if you are not 100% familiar with how to remove the bag unit with the proper T30 torx bit and how to properly put it back on, get it done by a professional. DO NOT RISK YOURSELF OR ANOTHER DRIVER by such careless stupidity

Oh and to those who wish to debate which way the bag would go or what would happen, several car makers many years ago put out bulletins about the importance of using the correct fastners and making sure they are properly tightened exactly for this reason.

Wow, that is scary..... you think if someone is going to take off an airbag, they would at least have the brains to screw it back in properly....

Holy crap :eek2:

I cant believe anyone would do that to an airbag.....just astounded, could have easily killed someone or a whole family

People just don't realise how deadly these things can be if they are not treated with respect. Most manufacturers use a locktite type of substance on the bolts so they cannot loosen off. I cant believe some idiot has put the wrong screw in and not even bothered to tighten the other one properly.

That's why I got my mechanic to fit my ralliart wheel, I didn't want to put it together wrong and have something happen to someone driving my car if it ever went off.

i bet you would be also devastated to hear that some shonky buggers also remove the SRS globe from the dash cluster and refit a standard wheel to airbag equiped vehicles, very dirty trick if you ask me

Best one I have seen, a shonker removed the circuit board track to the SRS and connected it to the engine light so they both came on and went off....passed RWC as it looked like it worked

Hmm

Also was not my car, was purchased from a member here and brought to Vic, I am not saying that member even knew about this dangerous mod but if he got it done at a workshop I hope he never goes there again

Ive seen a race seat held in with self tacking screws. Maybe worse than an airbag. It was in a VN commodore

Yep,thats a good one,i have also seen/heard off coupling it to the alt charge light, but the blokes at the inspection place caught on as they both went out at the same time instaed of the SRS staying on longer for its self test etc, shokny indeed!,glad they got done!
