Off to a land of many shops (I'm rural & bugger all shop choices) this Friday. Minister for finances is hinting at maybe buying a new HU
So, I'm after suggestions please.....
Current HU has a USB that when using reverts back to 1st song each time it's turned on, so gotta remeber last track & skip through till you get to where you were - aren't they suppose to start from last song/position played?
Also has SD slot, it plays from last song/position after turning back on, I like that :)
I have a single din slot to work with - absolutly NO modifications allowed, by order of Minister for War :belt:
Must have - touch screen (pop out of course), CD, Radio, SD (USB take or leave), Tag (either static or scroll), green/white lettering on screen (red's to hard to see with these old eyes.
I listern to a mixture of Blues/Rock (n Roll)/60-70's Heavy Metal/Classical if that helps
Looking to spend $5-600, if I'm really really really good, I may be able to stretch it to $700 :hmm:

Any suggestions - anyone?
Or is it a case of this type of beast don't exist?
Above is the features I'd like, anything else onboard is neither here nor there :)

Well mate, I'm in favour of the looks of OEM units, but of course they don't have the bells'n'whistles you have been using and seek in your new unit.
Couple of questions, you want touchscreen, but only state CD, not DVD - do you just like the wow-factor of touchscreen control, don't wanna sit in car watching DVD's?
In any case, its gonna depend on which "land of many shops" you go to, and what is available at the many shops you choose to browse. If you can drop hints where you are headed, maybe members local to that city can suggest good dealers or mates in the audio retail game?
For the money you plan to spend, you should find a few choices. Maybe search the old "audio" forum posts (if you haven't already) as some members have posted their preferences for Brand or specific models at times in the past.
For myself, I like Ipod for music storage in cars - but have never tried USB. Would be good if you found a HU that offered "shuffle" play from USB stick, cos that's almost all I ever do with the IPod. having the Ipod sit in front of Cig-lighter in one car, and crossways near console bin in the other - I never worry about ID3 tags (can look at Ipod screen if I wanna no a track I don't recognise anyway).
have fun shopping! Sure you'll find something you like - take your USB or SD card with own music - see if sets displayed can playback how u'd like (and you can hear your music and how preset EQ etc sounds on a given unit).

Thanks Elwyn :)
Yes, sorry, off to Canberra
The touch screen feature is so I could have my SD/USB with many folders on it & I'd be able to select which band/artist/folder to listern to.
I know you can get HU's that'll scroll the folder name, but the writing is a wee small for my eyes. CD because the wife has her favourite CD's when she's driving. If it's DVD, then that would be a bonus for when we have the grandkids in the car, could buy a screen or 2 later for the rear, but no, not interested myself in watching dvd while driving...love my music :)
Above is the features I'd like, anything else onboard is neither here nor there
Cheers :)
For that budget, I think you may struggle to find a touch screen with those features.
I had a look around, JVC have a model with your needs - but for $900, clarion $1000....
Cant help much more as im a single din old style stereo person - not really keen on touch screens and the like :)

Maybe drop a query post into the ACT forum - those guys seem to meet regular for meals etc, and Wookiee has been very helpful to me and others. Maybe they know where are good places to try for deals.
Also, I know from a recent post that Righty works for JVC - he had a post about some ex-demo superseded audio gear - maybe search for that (it was an almost once-off thing, he doesn't have access to cheap stuff usually).
Any time I have browsed touch-screen stuff, I was looking a double-din, not single - and they were around the $900- plus mark - but maybe a single-din flip screen is cheaper? there's lots of things I'd do before spending that on a HU (on my kinda roads no Magna needs high-end audio - its lost in road noise and rattles!!).
