I thought all 3rd Gens had a glove box light (mine does). Maybe your's is just a missing or dead light bulb?

yeah i forgot to mention only radas and advances have the loom for it AFAIK.. so i would have to do all the wiring myself.. which im veryconfident about...
the only reason that i thought of doing this is because i installed the verada dome light.. and the verada front map lights....
EDIT: just informed alteras do too

Grab a T5 bulb holder from a dash harness from the wreckers, extend a wire across from the ciggy lighter. Instant parker-triggered glove box light.
If you want some more light, use a CCFL tube or 2x T10 inverted bulbs.

or go down to u-pull-it and go to nearly any 2nd gen and you will find how it was done in that car..remove said swithes and globe holders and muck around on yours till you get it to work..shouldnt be that hard..
....simply take the power off your ciggy lighter or something that is constant live and use the earthing switch from the 2nd gen...have been meaning to do this for ages...

have you checked to make sure it works with the headlights on, the glovebox light in my vrx only illuminates if my headlights are on

Anybody remember if its T5 or T10? I'm pretty sure its T10... Wiring is easy though, there are 2 parker circuits sitting in the ashtray for the ciggy lighter and ashtray lights. I'm going to do mine soon.

........and what happens when you are sitting somewhere and you havent got your lights on...kinda sucks having to turn on your lights just to get the light in the glovebox to work...why not use a constant power sorce...unless im wrong and the circiuts you are talking about are live...though i thought the ciggi lighter only worked when the acc were on and ditto the ashtray light....

The ciggy lighter outlet is acc, but the lights are parkers. The best way to do it really is a constant 12v with a trigger switch on the ground, takes a bit more work to do, but it means it will only turn on when the glovebox is opened.

your other easy power/ground sorce is the phone plug which sits under the consol/cup holders...

Thats the hands-free plug, it works off ACC.

I wonder if you have the wiring installed but not the light socket? I had wiring for footwell lamps in my TJII Advance but not the last 10 cm or so with the bulb holders (I do now though!).
There might be a wire hanging about there somewhere (good luck)!

According to Workshop Manual for TJ Exec,
Glove box lamp gets power from tail-lamp Relay, via Fuse #2 and opening glove-box lid grounds the circuit. Green wire with White trace is the power, black wire from glove-box lamp to earth.
This would imply that by TJ series all cars had a glove-box lamp (Exec is the base model). I'd be very surprised if any 3rd gen had the glovebox lamp omitted.
Just checked TJ Sports (ser II) and KJ ei (ser I) - both cars the glove-box lamp only lit when Parkers are switched on.

And my Gregory's manual interior illumination wiring diagram shows it as a standard fit to all cars (it marks the things that are optional or only on some models).
The supply wire is green with a white stripe and the earth is black.

Generally some of the exec models do not have them, the ones that do in both second and third gen will work when the parkers are on only. The switch turns it off so it is not on all the time but you need the parkers on to have the glove box light work
