View Full Version : Where to put them?
Hey Guys,
Having hearing lately Jaycar no longer sell CCFL tubes, when I was there on Friday and actually found them, I bought 2 sets (thats 4x 30cm tubes)... Now I'm just wondering what the hell to do with them!
So, I thought I would post up and let AMC get creative, to give you some history - I already have 4x UV (Black) CCFL neons in my footwells, so those are handled.
Some locations I was thinking were:
- Driver doors (Verada Courtesy Lighting Style)
- Boot Lid (License Plate Light Style)
- Glove box (Never enough light in there!)
- Grille (Always thought this was cool)
Now, the tubes are:
2x 30cm White with Inverter
2x 30cm Blue with Inverter
I also have 2 fuse holders, 5m of blue wire, 5m of brown wire, and 10 fuses.
Cheers,
Dean

:bowrofl:
Anyway, why did you buy them when you dont need them? All of your suggestions I would use something different in its place, or not put them there at all. Adding something to your car for no real reason is stupid, you should have a goal/purpose for each mod and these i fail to see the reasoning behind

I bought them to use them, its just I can't decide where! So many places they would be useful. I could use all 4 in the boot, 2 in the grille, one in the boot lid outside, one inside, door lighting, glovebox lighting etc...

Doubt you could fit a 30cm tube in the bottom of your door, need 10cm ones. In the boot maybe but would want to have something worth showing off. Glovebox, outside of bootlid are totally worthless additions to your car i think mate.

Glovebox I did in my corolla, worked really well, boot lid outside Pete has done on his car, looks great. As for the doors, it would involve making a cutout in the door card, but very possible.

Just my opinion,
Gas-Hed used much smaller tubes in his under-door mod - to fit into the recess where the nuts holding the window-lift mechanism are located. I used approx 8-10cm LED strips in the under-door spot with good effect..... a 30cm tube there would probably fry the poor little ants wherever you park :D - I reckon it'd be overkill.
Glovebox, maybe good if you really need intense light to explore it.
Our TJ Exec has a high-mount rear brake light at top of screen, with a black slimline cover - if you got a couple of them covers , colour-code to interior trim and mount at top of b-pillars, maybe you could use the blue tubes as kind-of uplighters washing across your headlining from each side?

I think Elwyn gets what im saying mate, in my opinion what you have bought is not suited to your intended applications. Fitting a 30cm light tube under the door is stupid when all you need is a 10cm tube, or something similar. The glovebox wouldnt be greatly wider than 30cm, so to put that big a light in it is massive overkill, its not that hard to find something in it

Honestly, Grill.
I had 2 x 30cm's ones each side (LED sticks though, directionally pointed down) and 2 x 30cm ones in the front bar (as you can see in the pic)
