Have a series 111 Vrx Auto with 43000Klms
Car is under warranty and will be taking it in to the Dealer in the next few weeks but am interested if anyone here has any insights into the problem.
On very low throttle openings (in stop start traffic or car parks) when auto changes from 1st to 2nd gear a small but noticable vibration is felt through the car just as the gear change occurs.
Does not happen if you use manual shift of if you rev over approx 1200 Rpm
Would appreciate any knowledgable input so I can discuss with service people.
Cheers

hmm.....i think i may have this, it only happens in 1st to 2nd change, and only on very light throttle, just enough to get the car moving - i thought it was normal!

Checked the fluid level and colour? Had a very good chat yesterday to a very good transmission guy, about my little problem (unrelated) the mitsubishi boxes love to have a good level and condition of fluid, otherwise using his words "what's your misses like when you've had a big night with the boys"........... happy?

Fluid is just below the top hot mark when hot.
Is almost clear in colour.
Wondering if the right grade of fluid is in the box (SF 111??)

Further to my original post the shudder occurs when the gear change is between 1000 and 1500 Rpm and 15 to 20 Kmh.
Anything above these revs/speed and the change is smooth

Yeah mine does this ... I also noticed the loan car (Colt) did the same thing despite having a CVT

I suffer this low speed behavior. I just had my 60K service and the guys could not find an issue with the box, fluid or running. I still encounter it at low speed when dropping off the acceleration but it is less of an issue since the service, given the dealer service guys would have jumped at the chance to get an extra buck if they thought there was something in it. They did order a new set of rear shocks, under warranty, from Japan though to fix my rear end knock though. Maybe that was enough for them for this service...

Starting to sound like a common occurrence.
WIll keep reseaching so I have something concrete to discuss with Dealer staff when I take it in.
In the US their was an issue with using SF 11 transmission fluid and vibration/shudder at low speeds which was reportably cured by changing to SF 111 fluid.
My dipstick states use SF 11 while my Manual states SF 111
Wondering whats actually in the transmission???
Cheers

The 380 gearbox is the same 5 speed as was in later model 3rd gen Magnas AFAIK. In which case the gearbox needs Mitsubishi SP3 automatic gearbox oil, and I'd be all but certain that's the only kind of automatic gearbox oil Mitsubishi sells.
Cheapest way to get a good diagnosis would be to buy 3 bottles of automatic gearbox fluid from Mitsubishi ($120 or so) and flush and change the fluid yourself. It's really not that hard if you have some rubber hose, long nose pliers, oil catch can and some patience. There's a 380 workshop manual around here somewhere I think, if not, just get the Magna one and follow instructions in there.

Cheers for the info.
Local dealer only charged $80 for a transmission flush in my previous car (GTVi) about 6 months ago so that will be one of the things I will suggest they do.

Just got my 380 last week with 32k on the clock and glad to say all shifts have been smooth, especially at low revs, where I'm hanging out a lot trying to see what I can get out of a tank of fuel. I'm impressed with the auto box so far, seems very nice, and revs low at highway speeds.

Had the car in at the dealers two days ago.
They hooked up the Mutt (Computer) but nothing showed so they flushed the transmission.
All good now!!!

I'm just thinking of changing my ATF fluid, anyone can recommend a good fully synthetic ATF fluid that meets the Mitsubishi SP3 spec? any comments or feedback on Redline D4 atf or RP maxatf?
