hey fellas

Ok so got given a sub by a mate. already had amp etc etc hooked up so easy installation connecting a sub up.

anyway some retard (myself) accidently touched the ground and the remote power cable together. shorting everything. alright so its happened before. i just disconnected the battery and thought it would be sweet. wrong. stereo doesnt turn on at all. and blinkers dont work?????

checked fuses. the one outside and inside were dead. so i swapped them. and the one in the head unit was fine. (the amp and everything is disconected at the moment. only using a head unit to work it out)

so turn it on. no go. and the new fuses havent blown. soooo wtf is going on. its too raining right now to try and work it out more and its dark. but for the life of me i cant think wat else..

lesson is. disconnect battery before doing anything electrical. der

Which fuses did it blow? Should of just blown the interior light fuse...

it blew the audio fuse (has a musical symbo) inside and out.

oh and should the remote wire be 12v? cause pulled out a multimeter and it was only .25 of a volt.

If you have a workshop manual (either Gregorys, Haynes or the Mitsi pdf's from Tech Torque Forum) look into "fusible link" - these are like a piece of wiring installed near-ish the battery..... like a master-fuse. Do you have power to anything at all?

Firstly, as TUFFY asked, which fuse was blown?

Edit: answered.

Secondly, do not keep replacing those fuses, and for the love of god do not put a higher rated fuse as a replacement. Something is a miss in your system (my guess is the headunit), if you put a higher rated fuse you run the risk of burning your car down.

Wild stab in the dark says your headunit is gone if its blowing that fuse.

na course not. that would be silly. i had a pack of 10A fuses already, so it was a straight swap. again it was the fuses that have a musical symbol on them.

na i dont have one of those manuals. and yeah power to everything i can see. except blinkers and HU

if the head unit had blown wouldnt the fuse in the head unit be blown?

Fuse on the back of the headunit is to protect its own power circuit incase of a shortcircuit.

You (from what im reading) have shorted the headunit through the remote wire.....which is rather impressive personally.

EDIT: Blinkers still not working? Have you checked their fuse?

Second EDIT: Correcting myself - remote wire should have +12V

hmmm really?
u rkn head unit is gone bye bye? i wonder if that would be covered under warranty. its a very expensive hu

Well,

You short circuited the remote PCB, possibly affecting other parts of the H/U (you keep blowing fuses).

Short of someone taking it apart, its hard to tell if its a simple fix or a replacement.

I'de say its toasted.

Warranty does not cover mis-use or faulty installation, and when they take it apart they will find out straight away.

yeh. but would they be able to say. u screwed it up. or could it look like. for some reason a short occured and there fore its been damaged?

You can try.

There's two things I really dont like about the idea.

1. They are not stupid.

2. You screwed up, might be an expensive headunit, but, its your mistake - I dont see why a company should have to pay for your stupidity (pardon the language, but it really, really irks me when someone tries to pass the buck on things like this).

yeh tru.

and i obviously know it was my fault. but it was an accident. and pioneer have more money than i do. lol.

and managing a retail electronics shop. i do see a fair bit of stuff repaired under warranty which generally probly shouldnt be

Oh yeah. probly the bigger issue of the 2 at present. wat about my blinkers. any ideas on that?

found from different thread "now due to unforseen circumstances i had to put the install on hold and started driving. Little did i know that the blinkers dont work if the hazard button isnt plugged in! Idiot old me realised that the blinkers wern't working and drove around for 20 min finding an auto electrition who then told me why the thing wasnt working!! AAARRRGGGHHH!!
"

that probly solves that one then.

Just return it and ask for a refund because you made the wrong purchase and go to another store and ask for a price match ;].

They wont test it if you pack it nice and neat.

']pioneer? probably blown the RCA tracks..

RCA tracks, dont they usually only let go when you try and ground the RCA's? or have a poor earth on your amp?

RCA tracks also (on pioneers) have an internal fuse from memory, he would have blown the fuse and had static sound on his amped speakers.

Then again, electricity does strange things when mistreated.

Yeah from what I've read usually only with RCA's...but being a pioneer....you never know....
