Hey im thinking on mounting some speakers on the top of my boot so when its popped you can see them. Just wondering do u wire them up to the existing rears and do you have to run new wires from HU? Also can i connect a neon to the speakers so that it only turns on when the speakers on? I did this to my sub and it beats with the sub just thinking might do it with speakers aswel?
Im trying really, really hard not to just pee myself laughing at this idea.
Each to their own.
New wires from the headunit. Otherwise you will change the resistance, which your speakers wont like and neither will your headunit.
The neon...christ....
As in, do you want this to flash like the sub neon, or do you want it to only be on permantly when the speakers are actually on?
I would simply connect the neon to your boot light (depending on the size/current draw).....

Hmmm i cant really be bothed running new wires haha, ermm dont care was just wondering if it would pulse or weather it would be a constant, yeah i was thinking about the boot light
It would be constant.
If you want it to pulse, wire it alongside the sub neon.

Do it once do it right LEARN from all of us who have done a crap job the 1st time only to have to do it a 2nd time to make it look less crap.
Go out and buy a sound reactive neon pack, from rice-o-barn about $20.

what we normally do is run them on the same wiring as the rear speakers, and when the boot opens it cuts the rear speakers in the car and turns the bootlid speakers on, not going to explain how to wire it as i think you should get a pro to do it,

2nd time...
Heh....
Try buying a Magna to fit a better stereo. Re-doing the boot install 3 times to get it right......

Yeah nah its pretty gay, and how are you gonna mount them? half the trouble is making it look decent, not just sticking them in some 3mm MDF and screwing it into the bootlid bracing.
why dont you stick some speakers behind your grill and hook it up to a mic inside so you can tell people to gtfo of the way or something now THATS a good idea!

New wires from the headunit. Otherwise you will change the resistance, which your speakers wont like and neither will your headunit.
That makes no sense. New wires from the head unit will be exactly the same as tapping into the wires at the rear speakers. The impedance will change if you wire 2 speakers to 1 channel regardless of if you connect it at the speaker or the deck. Your still using one output to run 2 speakers. You will run the decks internal amp at either 2 or 8 ohm depending on how you wire it. the deck "will" run at 8 ohm but will put out less power, trying it at 2 ohm... it'll work but not for long. Decks are only built to handle a 4ohm load. going either side of this you really need to run an external amplifier.
Simple answer, to wire this you need to do some tricky stuff with relays to turn the rear speakers off, boot speakers on when you open the boot lid, and vice versa when closed. Your trigger wire is the boot light ground I believe.

I think it would be cool, but just not mounted in the boot lid.
Perhaps hidden in the sides of the boot with a PS2 and 22inch screen and singstar and..... I better settle down :woot:

It does make sense.
I just didnt word it properly*
Wiring from the headunit if he has spare channels, otherwise yes, an amp is required. Alternatively he can use a set up like lowriders without effecting the impendance.
*which I do apologise for, it makes sense in my head, sometimes forget you have to explain things like how you just did.

Do you mean cutting holes in your bootlid so the speakers can be seen from outside the car

noooo bolting some wood on the underside of the boot so when its popped you can see the speakers facing you, a few people on here have done it

you will need a double throw double pole relay.
difference to a normal relay is instead of opening/closing a single circuit.
it switches from one circuit path, to another, and is two of these relays stuck together, (one for each speaker)
its normal operation (no power) is switched to the circuit side that is on the parcell shelf rear speakers
when power is sent to the relay, from the boot light, it switches over to the boot lid speakers.

Thank christ for that, still seems like a silly idea anyway. Theyd probably sound crap and just create more rattles.
