Hi
Got some factory roof bars for my ts wagon a pick a part and forgot to measure where it sits on the roof.
can somebody spare 10 minutes to measure where they sit
Boot open from rear of roof to start of rear base unit on roof: ???
From side top of rear glass to middle of rear base on roof : ????
Front door top of window glass to base leg left and right:
Front windscreen top to start of mount::
I have all the screws and brackets for under the roof as well. There fitted with Thuel roof racks which make them a solid square so i dont need to worry about squering them up as such.
I have borrowed as many photos as posible of the unit on cars from here so i have a ruff ideal.
Thanks Heaps

Hey guys,
Sorry about the late reply, but I might be able to help. THis information will really only apply to you if you have the factory roof racks so if they're not then I'd keep looking elsewhere. Even if you have the factory roof racks to go on the car it may be extremely that even though they're factory they still may not be easily fitted to your roof.
Here's what you need to do. Remove the headlining from your car, instructions can be found on here (it can be a pain in the **** but it's pretty much just taking off everything attached to the ceiling and it'll fall out, best way is learn by doing anyway). If your particular model can easily fit these racks then you'll see some brackets already in place. When I was attempting to do this I had a KS wreck and took the racks off it. The KS had the brackets in place but my TS didn't.
If your car does have the brackets then the best way to line it all up is to drill from the underside of the roof through the each of the screwholes in the brackets. The rear hole on the rear foot of each rack cannot be drilled from the underside of the roof beacuse of some structural metal that I wasn't game to alter. This shouldn't matter anyway because when you've already got three of the holes lined up then the last one can only be in one position and it can then be drilled from above.
Hopefully that's made sense and will understand. The bottom line for me was that my TS didn't have the brackets and I wasn't game to try any other methods of attaching them.
Good luck.

Thanks for the input its much appreciated.
Im up to the stage and knowledge how to fit and yes the roof trim is a pain to remove but shi# happens. As the lower mounts and rack dont line up it leaves me with a lot of free play....so measurements from the top will give me a drill point.
There factory bars.
The lower brackets are glued by the factory before they pot rivet then mount the 2 screws to each rail mount.
This leaves a margin of error.
thanks again for your help.
PS nice ride.

Ok since you helped me out abit i went out and did the measurements for you, i did them as accurately as possible but i take no responsibility for any error you have installing them.
Boot open from rear of roof to start of rear base unit on roof: 36mm
From side top of rear glass to middle of rear base on roof : 45mm( i took the measurement starting from the top of the roof gutter to the middle of the racks base.)
Front door top of window glass to base leg left and right: 45mm(same as last measurement)
Front windscreen top to start of mount:: 620mm
I also measured the distance between the rack bases to the other side of the car( from inside of the base to the inside of the opposite other base) = 905mm
If your confused about any measurements tell me.

Thanks heaps!!!!!!!!!
I know from when i removed the racks off the wagon at pick a part there is a bit of room for error when fitting so i should be right. If i stuff it i'll only have myself to blame.
Once i get the roof trim out and line it up i'll make the decision weather to drill or send to a panel beater.
Should be right as I've pulled off some crazy things with cars before.
As you want to go camping check out my second battery install guide. Mine is in the wheel well but it was originally in a batt box in the rear left of the boot with a land cruiser batt tray to mount and bolted through the floor.
It'll run a fridge, lights etc for a long time as its a 90 amp deep cycle.
Had for a while now and works great, charges fine off std alt and if i leave the lights on in the car by mistake i can flick a switch and start off the rear batt.
Just the batt install would be about $500-700 inc wires etc.
Current thread.
