View Full Version : Will this work?
Hey guys,
I'm just writing up a wiring diagram for my lighting, I will be doubling this when done as there are 2 switches. Just checking with you guys as a lot of you prob have more experience and can tell me if there is a better way of doing this, or if I am doing anything wrong.
See attached diagram: http://img119.imageshack.us/img119/4673/95531996.jpg

If the neons are all 3 volt then yes, if they are 12 volt then no.
If you have them in a series (as per you diagram) you add up the voltage they are rated at and that ammounts to what you require to run them E.G. if you have 4 x 12v lights you would nee 48 volts to run them all. If you run them in parrallel e.g. 1 wire going from the relay to each positive and on wire going from the negative on the battery or earth to each negative wire on the neons then you will only need the ammount that each light is rated at E.G. 4 x 12 volt neons will still only need 12 volts but would pull more amps.
Well, apparently each one is rated at about 3 amps (I have been running a 6 amp fuse however). So I assume if I am to daisy chain them as shown, I would just have to replace the fuse with a 12 amp? And yes they are 12 volt.

Nope, you car battery is rated at 12 volts. 12 volts is the rated power needed to run the lights, amps is how much power is flowing to the lights.
E.G. your house fans needs 240 volts to run, when you play with the switch you are allowing more or less amps to get it to spin faster or slower.
understand?
Ahh right, so I will have to run it in parallel then as the lights are rated at 12v?

That is way to confusing to run some neons, They use piss all power, just run them off an ACC line..

There are also 4 different power modes involved, thats why its getting a bit complex. Adding a relay in there for some cleaner power is rather simple in this case, its the switch that makes it a bit more complex (Using a DPDT rotary switch).

Ok why dont you run a 5 pin relay then? Instead of that switch
Um think it should work, CBF thinking much right now. Use one output for the door lights and have the other output as constant.
So um should be when the doors are all closed you can turn them on but when a door is open they'll turn on anyway.
then just run a simple switch in between the output you choose as all the time. THATS easier
Started on the wiring today, I just need another relay for the ciggy lighter mode selector switch : - )
I'll pick up another one tomorrow and finish it all off.

Holy Sheet that looks confusing ahah, can anyone tell me in short what a relay does. I have 3 neons in my car 2 in foot wells one above sub, if i throw a relay in what would happen?

It will take the load off of your switch (if you have one) and bring in a stronger power source (direct from battery). You can also use it to trigger "when" a neon turns on (see my switches) - Their "modes" are:
1. Off
2. Doors open
3. Accessory on
3. Constant power

My relay idea would of saved you all this crap.
By using my said relay setup, when a door was not open you could still turn them on and off....
And you needed was a 5 pin relay and a switch...
But meh what do I know

I don't get how your idea would be able to go through all these modes?
2 modes yes, but not 4.

Pin 87 will work your door trigger.
Pin 87a will work your on/off. (with a switch in between)
whenever the doors are CLOSED it will allow you to work them on and off via a switch, maybe via acc or constant, whichever you choose.
why you needed both an ACC option and constant is beyond me, if you need to show someone your riceyness just put the keys in the god damn ignition
Which, should do 3 mnodes, as you dont need constant and acc.
door trigger
on
off.
1 relay
1 switch
alot less fooking around then that!
