Hey all

Im trying to sell some tail lights i have laying aroung that have been tinted with spray tint and im wondering if the tint may be able to be removed without damaging the lights. The reason i wanted to find out is to give people the option if they dont like the tint.

So anyone tried it before?

CLR Cleaner. (http://www.homedepot.ca/wcsstore/HomeDepotCanada/images/catalog/c5ed9b58-894f-4089-b7f5-d0e1ca989f92_4.jpg) I used this to get the tint off my Totoya Corona tailights some years ago.
Just need to keep rinsing under water so that the lense doesn't go milky. I don't recall it being a very fun task though that's for sure.

I wouldn't be game to try it though, could be easy to melt the lights

Dont reckon they would, i remember we use to use thinners to get paint of everything at TAFE when i did my panel beating pre-app. was bout the only thing that would get it off ur hands even.

autosol metal polish.. use that before on older lights that have been damaged by UV over 25 years in the aussie sun.. brings them back brand new :) the liquid though... it's not as abrasive as the paste you get in the metal tube..

OR.. you can use a plastic polish (like mothers) but it might take a while..

Hey mate!
I usually use P1200 wet to sand it off or you can use basecoat thinners to remove it then buff and polish the dullness off.
There are a few ways to do it being a spray painter,i would have to see them first to give you the right method.

You are right, many chemical solvents will penetrate plastics like this depending on the material used and how it was treated. You would be taking a risk in spite of what others say.

Tinted mine about a month ago but hated it, just does not look good with silver cars IMO

I sanded it back with some wet and dry then buffed with some polish and it came up a treat.

I did the same thing with mine last year when i got pulled up for them. Also gave them a buff with some cutters.

Totally right there!
If you use basecoat reducer to remove the tint then give them a polish, they should be fine but dont soke the rag in the reducer, just make it slightly moist with it and you should be fine.
Basecoat reducer isnt as volatile as most other mechicals used in any trade.
