Hi, just wondering if anybody has actually fitted a Lukey LR2779 muffler onto a TS V6, and if so, what the results/sound/any perceived performance gains were like. I know what these sound like on a 3rd gen, but I've not known of anyone putting this on a 2nd gen V6.

As most of us are aware, the LR2779 is generally regarded by many on this forum as being a quieter (as opposed to louder) aftermarket muffler for the 3rd gens. I understand this muffler will fit on 2nd gens, because SH00T tells me he had one on a TR 4cyl wagon, so I'm guessing a TS sedan woudl have a similar exhaust line.

Am needing to replace the original muffler on my '95 TS. It is clearly disintegrated internally, because when you grab the tips of the muffler and shake it, it sounds like it has sand or even small rocks inside it. Moreover, at idle, it splutters constantly.

Car still drives fine, but I do want to get it fixed, hence might as well get something better than a replacement OEM muffler.

It will growl a bit louder than a TL/TW, and you be able to hear it from in the cabin. I think that you might not like the extra noise, Though not a loud muffler like a cannon or such, it will have a nice deep note.
A fairly close example would be my TW now that it has a high flow cat.
You can go back to a restrictive muffler, at the expense of a little power and ecomony gain.
Unless the exhaust shops know of a quiter straight through type.

But seeing as you are getting to know my tastes, it would not be loud enough for me, but loud enough for my wife.

Hey SH00T, thanks for the advice.

Yes I find the TS V6's to be rumblier by nature than the 3rd gen 3.0's......maybe the LR2779 will therefore make the car quite loud indeed.

I'll start looking around for prices and talking to various shops and see what comes up.

Ultimately if the TS V6 with the LR2779 was no louder than your TW as it stands now, I could (almost) handle that. Was your high-flow cat already fitted when we went down to the Gold Coast that time?

I had a standard Genie straight through muffler on my KS v6xi and it was loud and drony. Switched to the LR2779 when my daughter was born and it was a lot quieter and less drony.

Sorry to resurrect a bit of an old thread, but this is directly pertinent to the topic. Rather than start a new thread.

Today, I picked up a TL Sports/VRX muffler off a wrecked TL VR wagon.

Does anyone know if 3rd gen sedan & wagon mufflers are the same? They look the same....I presumed they were and bought the muffler ; Figured that if for some reason it wouldn't fit my TS sedan, I can always pass the muffler on to a few friends with 3rd gens.

Also, is the pipe that goes into the muffler the same for sedans & wagons?

Not sure if anyone has actually tried putting on a 3rd gen muffler onto a 2nd gen, but if anybody has an answer, I'd love to hear how easy/difficult/impossible it is.

I'm thinking, worst case scenario, make up a new pipe to lead into the muffler if existing one doesn't fit, and also chop off the droopy tip and affix a new one (seeing as TS sedan has a cutout in the bumper towards the right-hand-side of the muffler)

Thanks

mate I'd just get theat muffler welded onto the 2nd gen pipe. I highly highly doubt it'd fit, actually no wagon muffler is longer or something like that, so the pipe is useless

Well I'm 99% sure Sedan and Wagon mufflers are different, since all the bolt on ones I've looked at for my car say Sedan only. Between 3rd and 2nd gen they'll most likely be different again, but exhaust places don't charge much to cut and weld, so I'd just do that personally!
