Just purchased a TJII Verada 2003 .... and what a beautiful car to drive. I prefer this car over my turbo charged Toyota Chaser.
Anyone got the specs sheet on this car ...seems to have more grunt than the usual Verada especially pulling the extra weight and the front brake calipers seem to be bigger.
Redbook reckons they have 155 kw donk seems right but am expecting a bit more when car is fitted with a high flow muffler.

What's your definition of a usual Verada? You are prolly feeling the extra torque than the power i would say.

your probably just noticing the shorter gearing in the 5spd auto compared to a 4spd. 5spd gets 55 first, and 95 in second (roughly) compared to the 4spds 80 in first and 140 in 2nd

The 380 had 175kw, not the Magna/Verada

Your probably right FFEEkY .....having two Veradas one a 1997 and one 2003 there is a descernable difference. The 5 speed seems to get the heavier car going with more momentum.
The 2003 feels a much more solid car , steering , suspension, ride and braking .... could be something in the manufacture more rivets or spot welding ?

97 only got 147kw too, later models got 155kw. Not much different I suppose, but yeah.
The 5 speed is much nicer than the 4sp, drove my uncles KL and it's like silk.

Also a 16Nm torque difference between the two coupled with the better geared tranny would make a significant difference

Ah that's true, earlier 3.5s got 300nm, later ones got 316nm.

So where did the extra 8kw come from.....usually I would have suspected a free flow exhaust but it looks pretty standard. Hopefully fitting a Lukey will gain a few more kw's.....taking it up to near GTV specs.

Afaik the only real difference between the 155kw and 163kw motors is the exhaust, just the rear muffler. The difference from 147kw to 155kw is a bit more complicated, something to do with the Cam's I think being revised but I'm not sure, best to ask someone in the know, Madmagna perhaps if your really keen to know :P To be honest I don't think it makes a difference though, I've never had a 155kw 3.5 4sp magna or verada pull away from me with their mind blowing extra 8kw and 16nm torque, it'd be the 5sp that makes it feel quicker.

the extra ponies that the later 3.5 got were from cam revisions, and ecu twicks.... i had a TF and now got a TL, i can feel the difference between the chassis, some main points of difference, the later cars had side impact protection bars in the door, the TL had a reinforced front end which made the firewall area and a pillar region stronger... not sure about any more chassis changes/upgrades...
my first post in a long time.....

He said he bought a KJII though, I don't believe any structural changes occurred before the TL. I'd put it more down to being a newer car, just had less time to loosen up :P

So sounds as though the TJII Veradas got the VR-X tweaks in cams etc if so a Lukey should bring it up to 163kw's  It's not going to win any drag races but that extra kw's makes a big difference with the extra weight the Xi hauls (fat ****d luxo vehicle that it is)
Anyone know what brake package the Xi got ?

The difference that you notice in going from a TF to a TL is probably in the TL's revised steering rack, which was redesigned to give more feel and feedback, than the TE-TJ effort that was too light with little feedback whatsoever.

I was under the impression that it was a change in steering pump only. The TL -> onwards have the same pump as the ralliart AFAIK.

I think there is somewhere a tread with a link to alot of the original "brochures" for various magnas. I have the KW brochure same mechanical spec I believe (engine & brakes as the TJII) if you are interested.
