Gday guys, just rang up bursons to find out how much front and back Bendix General CT pads would be, and the guy asked wat sort of calipers i had for the front and rear? anyone be able to quickly answer it for me? 1998 3.0 TF magna. And is there any other info that he'l need to know to get the right ones for my car? Cheers. JM

Single piston calipers. As far as I'm aware, all Magnas bar the Ralliart and the AWDs used the same brakes.

Single piston
Bendix part number DB1203
There are better pads than those woeful CT's
Try Ferodo Excel or Ferodo Targets (around the $60 from REPCO / Bursons) or if you are a Bendix boy go for the heavy duty's (around the $95 from REPCO / Bursons)

are they noisy? is that $60 each or for all four?

No they are quiet - mine are any way, and it was $62 from REPCO for the excels per axle set ie 4 pads

not sure what you are basing that opinion on bf, i have had nothing but good experience with the general ct pads. They are quiet, minimal dust, bite nicely both hot and cold and fade resilience is also good

Recently got some ct generals, and also some new DBA rotors.... They just don;t seem to bite as hard as my old pads :(

How long do these things generally take to run in?

if its any interest i have Bendix Ultimates and for a street pad im impressed

have heard general's dont bite that well but i guess it comes down to how the car is driven..

is it babied or do you do some spirited driving every now and then?

Well i didnt want to spend a arm and a leg on new brakes, ultimates were a bit much for the moment and with the tranny showing signs or ware ive gotta stop the regular spirited drives lol. As long as it stops the car, itl be doing a better job than the shredded ones ive got on now....

Sorry for thread steal again, is there any noise from the ultimates?

With the generals I have found that they stop fine when you push them (eg 120ish>0) but when just normal daily grind they seem to be a weak. However, they seemed to still stop ok even when they were smoking :P

bendix are good if you want to go premium. Ferodo arent a long way behind.

As for instalation, you can get a caliper separator for like $10 at supercheap and give it a crack yourself. Cost to get it done is all labour, so depending on the workshop, shouldnt take more than 1 hour (should take less time, but they might bill you for a full hour)

I have Ultimates on all four corners at the moment (car came with new pads all round) they are very noisy when cold / semi warmish and very dusty. They are also chewing the rotors especially the front. They are great for hard driving, but day to day they are not what makes the boss (wife) happy. Will be going to CT's or heavy duty soon.

why am i not having the above issue?? u sure you got ultimates?

I've found my set to be noisy and very dusty, don't care though, they bite hard.

95% sure as my car was a ex nsw Police car, from all sources I have spoken to (even the 2 guys who use to drive my car friends of friends......small world) they noticed a big difference in the brakes after they changed them at the 45k service, better, but noisy, and they are the "standard" pad for most of their cars apparently.......

Even with Wurth Stop Brake Squeal Spray, CRC stop brake squeal paste and Wurth anti brake squeal paste on the pad, caliper and backing surfaces, they are still quite noisy at low speed applications. But the improved braking performance combined with the slotted rotors (probably adds to the dust and brake noise) is well worth it.

If you are just changing pads, remember to champfer the edges of the pad so they don't rub against the lip of the rotor (unless of course you get them machined or are replacng the rotors at the same time).

For starters they are BRAKE pads not BREAK pads (refer thread heading)

Secondly this has been discussed a million times and that good old search button would have given you a million results (try spelling the word correctly and you may get the results)

I am generally quite hard on brakes - the previous owner had some super cheap specials in it on the front (Super Stop pads - semi metallic) and they were quite impressive for a set that cost about $20
Replaced them with the Bendix General CT and it was woeful at washing off the speed it would take 2 suburbs to stop from 100 and even the wife complained about them
Either it was a bad batch or what ever but I changed to Ferodo Excels and a 1000% improvement

I only use QFM (Queensland Friction Materials) brake pads now, much better that Bendix. You can get them from any Brakes Plus shop if you're in Victoria.

how much you guys paying for Bendix General's?

also, what are people's opinions on genuine mitsu pads for magnas? they're not real expensive.. maybe genuine is the best way to go?

Thats a bit odd, maybe they needed bleeding properly? I have stamped on the pedal with these pads from 100 and my eyeballs nearly popped out

You must have weak optic muscles - the fluid was left alone

']Andddddddddddddddddddd why would you bleed them if you havent touched the fluid :s

correct - you do not have to crack the bleed nipple to replace the pads just push the piston back in with a G clamp
I my opinion I just got a crud set of pads or just expect more from a reputable set of known pads

I also use QFM's... brilliant pads.... no noise almost no dust and they bite very hard...and don't stuff your rotors... especially the initial bite..

The magna's brakes I would estimate at least 10-15% stronger in pulling the car up..

Absolutely kill ALL other pads I've used EVER... I am also going to fit these to the Evo Lancer they are that good!!

I've got some friends in the Nissan Skyline club on them and they are sold....

The HP-X is the "street pad" rated to 550 degrees (I use these and they are great)
The A1 RM is the track pads rated to 780 degrees (Don't know much about them but guess they can't be bad!)

http://www.qfmperformance.com/

And these pads are cheaper than any other pads around.... And Aussie made!!!!!

Can't recommend them enough!!!

Yep I have these pads in the XR8 and numerous 180 - 200 kmh stops into turn 3 at QR and they do not fade at all
Sorry these are with the QFM track day pads

I have two magnas TF sedan & a TE wagon.
The wagon has geniune mitsubishi pads in it
The sedan has burson pads in it (made by bendix)
The sedan brakes heaps better really bite when you put your foot on the brake
The wagon brakes are very wooden no feel at all.
As soon as the pads wear out i will be changing them.
You would not reckon they are the same brakes.

price for bendix gct about $60-65
burson pads $30-35

There are three different combinations of calipers on the TF.
PBR Front & Rear
PBR Front & Sumitomo Rear
PBR Front & Akebono Rear.
The Bendix (http://www.bendix.com.au/ProductCatalogue.aspx) website is a good guide to what you may have.
Best take the rear wheel off and take a look at the caliper for company markings before you order.

Bendix make a better guide than many however however you must understand that most of the caliper options were for the Diamante, we only have the one combination here that I have seen so far. (aside from AWD etc)

Rule of thumb for the standard gen 3 Magna range NOT Ralliart or the AWD
Brake pad part nos are
Front DB 1203
Rear DB 1204
