View Full Version : New response amp series
Has anybody bought a new response amp yet?
I was in Jaycar the other day and the new series are all digital and literally half the size of the old range.
This is the new range:
AA0420 http://jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=AA0420&keywords=response&form=KEYWORD
AA0422 http://jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=AA0422&keywords=response&form=KEYWORD
AA0424 http://jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=AA0424&keywords=response&form=KEYWORD
AA0426 http://jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=AA0426&keywords=response&form=KEYWORD
AA0458 http://jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=AA0458&keywords=response&form=KEYWORD
AA0460 http://jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=AA0460&keywords=response&form=KEYWORD
As you can see, they have changed colour (Silver to black) and cost quite a bit more.
My query is, is it worth going for the new range? The old ones will be going on sale quite soon as they will want to scrap the old stock, I'm wondering if I should buy the old range or the new? Whats the quality difference like in the new digital series?
Cheers.

AFAIK only the last 2 you've posted there are Class D, rest are still class AB, as I have a silver AA0424 in my car, specs are identical.

They may not have updated the site properly yet, I was speaking to the guy in-store about them.

Fair enough. Don't think any of those 6 are new models actually.

They have kept the same model numbers, but the design, specs, and price have changed.

The new range are winning awards against quite a few more recognised brands which speaks for itself. They are very good value for money.

I agree, you ask for peoples opinions and then flame them when they give you some info.

Thats not the point, it was already pointed out above they were out for a couple of months, he just wanted to spam for no reason. It was completely irrelivant to the original question which was regarding quality.

As Poita mentioned Awards etc, does anyone know of sites / forums etc which would be good to Browse for reviews and comparisons of Car Audio gear?
I'm not a big spender on ICE, and aesthetically like things to look OEM and blended-in - HOWEVER the enthusiasm for amps and subs is creeping under my skin and I wouldn't mind researching these babies a bit.
Thanks for posting this up, Life - as I'm not a dedicated follower of audio-fashion, it was helpful to know Jaycar had these. I bought some 6.5" spilts and 6x9's at Jaycar Rydalmere at real good prices - for basic upgrade of stock spkrs in a TJ sports and KJ Rada - have been very happy with results. At prices I paid, especially happy!!

THe Jaycar range strikes excellent value for money and great reliability.
In saying that they are not obviously the be all end all of amps, but for the price, they are very decent indeed.
Ha I love people getting their anger on. :gfight:

Well...The silver range of amps were very good for the money...and I dont see why these would be a downgrade?
I would love to get my paws on a set....sooooo tinyyyyy...
I still love these amps....I could have them cranking for HOURS....and they would barely get hot to touch...All my friends' amp's (JBL's Cadence's Kicker's) got so hot after an hours cranked they would all cut out...My Response amp's have never once cut out....
Again, not the be all and end all but Damn good quality for the $$ you pay and I will keep recommending these to everyone!

Oh, right, we wanted opinions. 2 Jaycar amps in my car, one an AA-0432 - http://ampguts.realmofexcursion.com/Jaycar_Response_AA-0432/
This drives Alpine Type-R splits up front, and is very compact. A few years old, got it for next to nothing with some other splits.
The other is an AA-0424, the 2x150wRMS in silver (specs are IDENTICAL to the current black model) this is substantially larger than the 0432 but drives my Type-R 12" sub nicely (bridged to 1x500wRMS @ 4ohm)
Both were very cheap (second hand), drive their respective speakers efficiently and haven't ever overheated.

Well I have a silver 2x150 driving my Morel splits up front.
I had a silver 2x150 bridged running the previous Response 12" Carbon Fibre DVC Sub.
I now have a 1000W silver monoblock driving a Vibe Blackair II 12" Sub.
I think they all sound great!
Oh and I got the 1000W monoblock for $30 from eBay because it was broken. Ordered some sample MOSFET driver chips from the chip manufacturer and now it runs sweet... so value for money I think I win! :facejump:

they are were actually brought out at the start of 2008.
they are good for quality for $ and for cruising around town or install comps, but if you want it for spl comps better to get something else.
other than that they are a great base to build from.
