Hey all!
Just a quick query - I have a standard 3.5 TJ magna and I have just bought a Rallirat ecu, now I know the differences with the cams, headers etc BUT can anyone tell me if there is going to be any point putting that ecu on a std engine?
There has been a lot of talk about a std ECU on a ralliart engine and people say it works.
I believe i am going to need to get the cams done to get the full benefit.
Unfortunately my other half isn't big on me spending money on her car....so I may have to sell the ecu depending on what I need to do.
Any help would be much appreciated,
Kieran

Seconded.
What you want is a custom tune, not a slightly different but basically identical factory map...

would have been better to get a stock ecu same as yours and sent it to get unlocked + new tune

Correct me if im wrong, but wont an ECU change require changing the BEM and other bits and pieces too?

mabey mitsubishi can match the ecu to your bem, to make it work.
but i cant justify the cost for what might be zero gain,
just sell it back on ebay, and spend your money on a high flow muffler,
that will give better gains

My guess is that 90% of the extra power and torque from the ralliart came from the exhaust upgrades it had over the executive system.

Exhaust was the main difference between the Exec and the Sports version. The Ralliart has 17 more kw's than the sports. Most of this would have been the cams, however there were a number of other changes too.

Plus the headers are upgraded, which wasnt on the sports.

The ralliart tune is more aggressive, but it is also tuned to take advantage of the high lift cams and extractors. so without these it would be pointless. Plus it might need to matched to the BEM?

If the ralliart had a different tune, and he put this on his car without the cams/headers/exhaust then wouldn't he just end up with a detuned car? It could possibly be worse than stock.

Yeah I reckon it could end up worse without the cams and extractors. I could be wrong though.

i reckon the car would run worse... ralliarts come from the factory running pretty rich....

Thanks to all that replied. I sort of saw a fair bit that has been said coming. What I figured was that I get the cams done, put a nice exhaust system in, good filter etc and then use the ecu, however It is probably going to cost too much for me to use the ecu now that I have done a little research.
Sounds like it would be much more beneficial to have the work mentioned above done, and remap my current ecu.
I was simply curious as I had seen a fair bit said about using a stock ecu with a ralliart engine, that is all.
The BEM - well that is going to be interesting.
Anyone know if I were to use the ralliart ecu and lets say it didn't work with my current BEM - would it all be fine if I switched back to the std ecu. Last thing I need is to have set of wheels in the garage not working....

FLog it off dont waste your time. You will find the car wont start with it due to the BEM not matching. Saw the samething on a Verada 2 months ago due to an ecu faillure from a leaking heater core.
