Hi there,
I just bought a 2001 TJ VRX, and the seller provide a RWC.
The RWC says they did a engine wash, replace tyres blah blah blah in order to pass it. The rest are fine, but I'm wondering why it needs a engine wash? Is there any defects in the engine that the seller or the RWCer try to cover?
Thanks.

weeping seals.. typically around the rocker cover.. front/rear mains can be 'hidden' if they are cleaned just prior to selling..
so a engine degrease can sometimes be done cos of this..
others are just meticulous like me.. and do a quick degrease of the engine bay every service (less than 5000km/2 mts) just cos a can of degreaser is $2.00 and i like it to look clean :) (mostley to get rid of the dust and odd bits of plastic cleaner, and a quick freshen up after)

If the engine was dirty/oily, they may have done an engine wash to see if there were any current major leaks or if the mess was from a previous (fixed) leak.
They then run it for a while to spot major leaks - which may have made it unroadworthy.
My guess is they did the engine wash, found no (major) leaks and passed the RWC.

As above, most RWC inspectors will want to be sure that there are no leaks as when a RWC is supplied, if there is a defect found after the RWC they can and usually will lose the RWC licence
