Hey,

I had to replace my aerial about 2 months ago as the original one got caught on my car port and got ungracefully removed. I got an after market jobby from Autobarn and have had no issues with it at all, until last weekend. Since then it has be extending fully but the motor is not stopping and is making a horrendous crunching/grinding sound as it continues to try and push the aerial upwards.

I've taken the aerial out to inspect the rope inside and the teeth all appear to be fine, but the problem remains. All i can think is that somehow the teeth on the gears within the motor have become worn and are not registering the resistance from the fully extended aerial and is continuing to operate.

Any ideas? I really don't want to turn it into a manual aerial.

Cheers, Wal.

Check with AutoBarn, or check packaging of same item at Autobarn if you have disposed of your packaging - aim is to see what warranty that after-market jobby has (I presume it is Aerpro).

Sounds like it faulty, not very old and worked well briefly - I'd be after a replacement....... presume it works OK upon retracting, no continuous grinding when its senses that the mast is fully down?

No go on the packaging, long gone by now. No grinding on the way down. I guess i'm reluctant to go and buy another one just to see if that fixes the problem.

Oh well, thanks for the reply!! :D

the sound is probably the cog not being able to push the belt that holds the antenna up. in most there's a single cog and a stiff belt that wraps around it to lower, and unwraps to extend. Try opening the case and seeing if it can be re-aligned. or return it under warranty?

My suggestion was to chase warranty, not just buy another item.

If you have chucked your packaging away, fair enuf - but go to Cr Card receipts etc if you have also chucked the Autobarn Receipt. If you have no receipts at all, I'd still try a letter or e-mail to the Store or the brand of Aerial.
