Got a Dremel tool, and the little bag of bits that comes with it, well i have worn out the sandpaper ones and the grinding wheel cracked...
so i was looking for some replacements, probabaly a rather large set - but hopefully for cheapish.
Who sells them, what is recommended and how much are they?
Does anyone use Dremels? Im unsure of how far you can use them....i was sanding my letterbox the otherday - but it seemed it was too small to do a good job?
And what bits do what jobs, like what to the stone pieces do?

Cheers, thats where i got the dremel from, but they said the acc kits they had weren't the best quality, they didn't have the actual DREMEL branded ones in. Maybe i should check back.

My Bunnings store has the Dremmel in it's own little area where you can buy individual bits and parts. The Dremmel tool is not meant to do large jobs, but small delicate stuff that the big tools can't do.

search for a thread on Polishing intake manifolds - I am sure TUFFTR posted-up his experiences of "genuine" vs "Cheap" dremel-type bits.
In some cases he found the genuine, reasonably exxy bits were worth their price - but other pieces of the cheap set were very effective. IIRC.
The thread was started by another member - sorry forget who - but TUFF was inspired by the shiny, mirror-finish polished alloy and got into it.

Super cheap you can get a 113pc set of assorted bits for $20.
They are no-where near the quality of the dremel brand ones but instead of paying $20 for 2 dremel bits, you get another 111 pieces at no cost really.
When I was polishing my manifold I purchased 2 of these cheaper sets and I think 2 dremel brand bits and yeah.....

Thanks for the advice schnell....helped alot there...
Buffed it with the dremel attachment yesterday and WOW! really completed it!
but as you said, it does wear out.....
Although through this whole ordeal Ive been using a mixture of SCA and "dremel" parts
What I found...
Sanding;
For $9 you can buy a pack of 6 sanding barrel attachments "Dremel" brand - Highly recommended - lasted ages.
BUT for $13 you can buy a 113 piece pack from SCA with like 10 barrel attachments and polishing attachments and cutting attachments etc. These barrel sanding attachments are CRAP! they are so ****, i was changing them every 4 minutes.
Whereas I also paid $9 for one "dremel" polishing attachment bit, and noticed no difference at all in life or quality compared to the SCA one.
my advice...
Buy the $9 6-pack sanding barrel attachments "dremel" branded - Probaby even 2 packs, they are really good.
but also buy 2 packs of the $13 SCA 113 assortment pack, besides the crappness of the sanding barrels you get tons of other stuff which is worth the money. also get 2 decent grinding stones in each pack so for the $4 more it works out even. Now I have a whole zip lock bag FULL of accessories!
I'm pretty damn happy with it now. Painted the backing black and I'm gonna go sand the excess off now.
As you can see here though from the photo how many scratch's are still left on some parts....hardly noticeable though to the naked eye from afar
PS The price has gone up from $13 to $20:P I checked recently:P

but yeah also if your doing your manifold go to bunnings and get the JOSCO metal polishing kit, allows you to use your drill to polish.
But schnell used his bench grinder to polish his so yeahh...

Yeah not so much into doing my grill, just have some ideas with some jobs...
like for example, the dremel sanding bit was awesome for blasting really hard bog, which i couldn't sand by hand... but not sure how delicate it could be.
Any idea on the price of that dremel kit i posted, sound any good?

You could try << justtools.com.au >> for comparative local prices.
That site calls the individual pieces and kits of Bits/Stones etc "Dremel Accessories" and stuff like tiny router-adaptors and drill-press adaptors they call "Dremel Attachments". Think I'd have labelled those things the other way round!!
Just be careful to check what currency you are talking on US sites, and what their Shiiping rates are - I've seen lots of bargains where they either don't ship to Australia, or else Shipping is so steep its not worth it...... currently ogling generic auto-dimming mirrors in EBayMotors, and facing the shipping problemo.
EDIT: The site I mention has a 200-piece kit for $85-00 aussie, but I didn't read-through about delivery.

Cheers mate, that was helpful, that kit looks the biz - and the post via aus post, so i can't see postage being a killer, maybe 15bux or so.
