Was wondering if it was worth paying the xtra for konis?

King SP + KYB about $900 fitted
King Sp + Koni about $1450 fitted

on a side note, anyone done heat coating of headers? any point?
or is it like spending $$ and seeing 0.5% difference

Yes IMO go the konis. Seeing as you are spending $900 anyway you might as well do it properly and get the konis which are leagues better.

I wouldn't bother with coating headers, IMO it seems like wank value than actually doing anything tangibly useful.

Maybe I'm thinking wrong, but I'm certain Phillcomm only quoted a $60ish difference between KYB's and Koni's - just the parts themselves, not fitted. Something like $620 for springs and KYB's and $670 for springs and Koni's.

Edit - scrub that - can't find proof so must havebeen thinking of something else. Apologies to the OP.

TBH I'm kind of regretting having my manifolds ceramic coated - they're silver, so they really show in a plain engine bay, and the intake/engine bay temps only dropped about 5 degrees. They do cool down quickly though, but unless you're doing engine work after a couple of laps there's no benefit to that.

Another option is Boge. Philcom can do those for $50 more than KYB. Boge is not a well know brand here but many top European cars have them as OE fitment. They used to be made in Germany but with changes in Europe could be made elsewhere now. Shawn could tell you the details.

Cheers,
Alan

i was under the impression that the coating on headers, is too keep the exhaust gasses hotter, which inturn keeps the exhaust gas velocity higher.
called scavenging effect
please corret me if im wrong?

It's more to do with holding the heat in the pipes, rather than it being absorbed and dissipated by mild steel or cast iron manifolds.

yeah thats wat i was implying, the heat is insulated so to speak, and keeping the heat in the exhaust gas
edit: waits to be :slap: :owned:

Ah, thanks Alan - thats what I was thinking of. Was going to go Boge and new springs before the trans decided it wanted to be renewed.

thanks for replies, will stick with the trusted setup,

King Lows and Konis, i think the $550 xtra will prove its worth
over the next few years of usage.

decided also to go with Lows instead of SP, too scared the fronts
will still look truck height with SP..

and yeah I won't bother with the ceramic, it sounds alrite for
track or competition car but street driving its probably a waste of dough.

Good choice mate, the Konis are in another league to KYB's. KYB's actually have very poor rebound, and the damping is probably just adequate for a street car. When the surface gets quite rough with a lot of small bumps or undulations, the superior rebound capabilities of the dampers is what will stand out, so that your car actually damps the bumps and doesn't just skate over them causing the car to "crash" over the bumps.
