Hey there, I was just wondering, if it would be hard to change the fuel and oil filter, by myself..and if it was easy what the steps are...Cause, i havent really ever done something like that before...?

Mmmm, if you haven't done it before and your not that experienced in cars and going to do it by yourself I personally wouldn't recommend it. It's easy as pie once you know what your doing but I'd perhaps get someone who knows about cars first? Oil is pretty straight forward if, just jack the car up, undo the sump bolt, let it drain into a container. Do it all back after it's drained, put some fresh oil in. Fuel filter, once again, just gotta undo a few bolts and a clip and change over. Someone else can go more into depth!

Probably do the air filter whilst your at it. (if needs changing)

If your keen on doing it yourself, do some research first.
Get the right tools for the job
Get the right parts for the job
Get a haynes manual and the Mitsu manual (and read them)
Plan enough time for the job
And get some help if your not confident.

eg. You need to depressurise the fuel system before you undo the connections. - Easy to do, dangerous if you don't.

Definately agree with that! First time I done my first change, the clip that sits inside the rubber that goes over the end of the filter was broken. Had to wait until the next day to go get a replacement! Luckily didn't need my car though :)

Just a couple of hints - prime the oil filter (fill it with oil) before you screw it back onto the oil pump. It might not seem important, but it's a couple of seconds that the engine is without oil if it's not primed. The other thing - the push in connector at the front end of the fuel filter might be troublesome. It needs to be pushed towards the filter, and squeezed to release it from the tail on the filter.

This is common sense as it does take a second or 3 to get oil pressure up if there is no oil in the filter (you don't want it sucking air...). Its a 5 second job to fill the filter so this doesn't happen. Bearings like to be lubed and its little things like this that increase the longevity of your engine.

I've always done it, I thought the idea was so the oil pump didn't run without any oil at first start up. It's more of a habit I've got into whether or makes a huge difference or not I don;t know.

Oil filter is rather easy.

Jack up car, drain oil through sump plug.

Move oil pan under the oil filter.

Turn anti clockwise (might want a rag to hold onto the filter better).

Clean the surface of the oil filter mount with a clean dry rag.

Take out new oil filter. Remove plastic, dip your finger into some oil (new or old) and lightly lube up the rubber seal on the oil filter.

Place oil filter onto the mount, screw on with just your fingers. When its finger tight, tighten with your whole hand 1/3'd to 1/2 a turn more.

Might I also throw in only doing the filter up hand tight and to never do it up with the removal tool.

Also check the mating surface on the oil pump for the old oil filter, o-ring. If its still there and you put the new filter on, oil will piss out like Exxon Valdez when you go to start it up.

Priming just involves filling the filter with fresh engine oil before you fit the filter to the oil pump. Ryco Z456 filters have a flat base, so they'll stand up fine on thier own while you fill them with oil. It'll take a minute or so, and use about 300ml of oil.
