About to replace some driveshaft boots on the TS 2.6 manual. The original clamps are a good design, but look likely to break if reused. The new aftermarket boots come with a band that needs to be pulled tight, I don't like these as it is hard to get the right tension on them. Guy behind the counter tells me its OK to use cable ties. Anuone tried this/thinks its ok to use them? Sold me "Narva" brand, "best on the market" lol

Wild stab in the dark - tried buying new clamps?

I personally wouldnt use cable ties, while yes they are good for certain things - I would not use them for this application.

The dust boots on my KR's reco'd steering rack were cable tied. Use 2 if you're worried about them breaking.

Excellent responses! On a steering they are stationary, and I don't see any problems using cable ties - but on a spinning driveshaft? Never thought of using them, but apparently it is OK. Double ties, check often seems to be the go.

No problems? Have you checked them since doing them? I'm wondering how the lock mechanism copes with spinning.

If you can, go to an agricultural store, there should be some very big, very heavy duty ones there.

Some chepo kits came with cable ties but I would advise against using them

The trick is to hold the clip with a screw driver and use some pointy nose plyers to wind the tension onto the clip and then fold, centre punch, cut and fold tabs

Is a little hard to explain here unless you have done it

What about using your standard radiator type worm hose clamp? I used these on my steering rack boots...dunno if it was a good idea or not but didnt like the idea of some thin pissy cable ties...

After doing lots of CV's..

Cable ties can be used on the smaller end of the boot. (Drive shaft side) Use two with the heads on opposite sides.

The big end... I used "Band-It" clamps you need a special tool to do it but they never ever let go...

Cable ties won't last... they'll pop off the first U turn you attempt..

Do it right the first time my man... save you from pulling it all apart again.

Good point. I will try the cable ties on the inner joint as it doesn't change angle when you do a U turn and the bands on the outer joints and see how I go. Need to track down the special tool as I've used the screwdriver and pliers trick and couldn't get sufficient tension. Just me I guess.

im with blackbird on this.... who rally wants to redo the whole job again including cleaning out the cv and regreasing to get the grains of sand out all because you skimped

ive used the screwdriver trick many times....maybe i should get the actual tool?

and a trick for young players...remove the excess air from the boot...saves it from expanding and popping off
