Hi all,
Just got into Magna from a Corolla...noticable difference, and wouldnt go back
But for $1850 i couldnt expect everthing:
Ive had a clutch that was slipping since i bought it 5 weeks ago. Last weekend i went about replacing it, new clutch plate, new pressure plate and new bearing. However this hasnt completely solved the problem, its helped but im still getting some slipping when in higher gear at lower revs, and after taking off from cold on an inclined driveway. Stopping, to fill for petrol for eg, stops the problem. It seems to be only from a cold start
Is there anything that i have missed and should be looking at...not really keen on pulling the gearbox out again.
Thanks,
cuzman

Hi Some great info if you do a search.
Did you bleed the clutch and check pedal free play, adjustment?
Apparently magnas are a bit sensitive to new clutches if not done by the book.
If you need i can scan the manual if needed.

Why does everyone want to bleed brakes and clutches ffs
When you replaced did you machine the flywheel and also measure/adjust the pivot. If the kit you got was reasonable there would have been directions in there for doing this.
Also check your clutch pedal free play and make sure the set up is not over adjusted thus leaving pressure on the lever when your foot is not on there

Thanks guys,
yep clutch was bled.
The fly wheel wasn't machined, apparently it wasnt needed.
I will check the pedal free play. How would i go about this, the mechanically minded guy helping me has gone on 4 weeks holiday.'
Just annoying because it is fine 95% of the time, even when towing double stacker boat trailers.
I already have a manual, but thanks for the offer.

I dont know if this information will be of any help but I got my clutch done about 500km ago. After I had got it done it had that low rev shudder in high gears. I was told that it needed to wear in (approx 1000km) but the moment i passed the 500km mark the problem has appeared to have gone and its running nicely. Just something to consider if it was only done recently :)

Thanks, was hoping to hear something like that. Will keep taking it easy and see if it resolves itself.
Would still like to check the pedal free play

I did a writeup in the second generation magna faq.
Have a looksee!
Pedal should be starting to engage 35 mm from fully pressed down - if it is much more (higher) than that it could be the freeplay or the clutch wasn't set up correctly. When the pedal is up press it with your hand, it should move easily about 20 - 30 mm before you feel resistance - this is the freeplay. If there isn't any, adjust (shorten) the rod that connects the clutch pedal to the slave cylinder, high up under the dash.
Your original clutch may have been slipping because of this - ie replacing the clutch hasn't fixed the original problem. They are good for 200 to 220 thousand Km, unless u r a hoon!

i have 220 on mine and bought at 196,.but im sure its been replaced before i bought the vehicle. maybe not!
Works fine for most parts but i think it'll work better with an adjustment of the fore mentioned.
I Have adjusted pedal play on a few models with great results.
Most mecks don't do it because it is a time consuming job and fiddly
As the second gens get older the parts ware and no one looks at the pedals!. or the mechanism with it.
They all need to be in harmony and this can take some doing.
Hope you sort it and let us now how you go.
