So i bought some cheap $59 car ramps from supercheap a while ago, and with a few days off work and uni i figured i'd change my oil - now i've done this many times and never had a problem, but was always using dad's wooden ramps that he had made himself. These were a lot longer than the cast iron(?) ones i bought from SC. The superheap ones are short and rather steep. As i was getting the car up the ramps, trying ever so gently to get the tyres up on them properly, my left tyre managed to grip one and throw it under the middle of the car and throwing the front left of my car back down to earth. Got it out ok and there doesnt appear to be any damage, (even got the oil changed eventually) but i was wondering if i'm just retarded or if anyone else has ever done this? Techniques on getting up these small-ish ramps?

Haha cheers for responses in advance guys.

ramps are good but ive only owned cars to low for any off the shelf ramps. ALways had to borrow my mates, who had his made.

basically you only want them to climb very gradually, say 6 inches every 2feet AND NOT TO HAVE STEPS MADE FROM RHS

i mean you need traction but traction is pointless when the gullies they make with there stepped > > > > pattern makes it very hard. also knoing you have to stop before you get over the top (usually an area 300long) before you fall off the top.

scary m********.

Normally i wouldnt use them, but ive always used jackshands/chaisis stands anyways so even if i made them myself it woudlnt bother me.... maybe i should make them for people?

Yeah you have gotta be careful with these, I find it easier to keep hold of the handbrake and move up in steps. Especially in an auto where they will go all of a sudden, hope nothing was damaged

I've used these cheap ramps made of RHS before. My greatest problem with them was driving the vehicle up on the stands one would slip forward on the concrete in the garage. So back down, line them up again and try again.
Not exactly confidence inspiring when your trying to do it yourself.

Other thing is lack of clearance with lowered vehicles hitting the front spoiler on the ramp and the amount of clutch slip required to slowly drive up the steep incline.

My suggestion is take them back to Super Cheap and swap them for a trolley jack and a pair of axle stands.

I have some old car ramps, but I find that they are too steep for the Magnas, was OK for the other cars I used to have...I now use Jack and chassy stands....as far as I'm concerned the car ramps are not worth Jack (no pun intended)

Basically useless ramps

My TJ's too low for ramps anyway, so chassis stands for me.

Poor design and frontwheel drive = no go. Maybe bolt them to the ground and weld chequer plate onto the driving surface?

Hydraulic jack and axle stands are the go.

There's nothing wrong these ramps.

I have a set.

Basically you want to crawl onto the first lip of them, this puts enough pressure on them to stop them from slipping on the concrete. Then, well, takes a little bit of power in my TF, then quickly on the brake, though the RHS tends to stop you from going over them.

Bit iffy at first, but now could do it blindfolded.

ahaha, yeah i don't have my dad's ramps anymore he threw them out - should of mentioned that. I have a set of axle stands but ive never got around to using them..ramps just seemed easier. Maybe i'll use them next time..

95ts, i was sitting about halfway up the ramp when it happened. So i had to jump out of the driver's side all the while packing my dacks about what i'd damaged. lol
