View Full Version : Catching Power Window

Alright crew, this has me stumped. I fitted brand new Pioneer front door speakers to my KR Verada the other day, which went along without a hitch. Very tidy install too, so i'm pleased.

However it looks like a side effect has arisen. The passenger side power window is having some trouble coming back up again. Goes down just fine (has gravity on its side) but when coming back up, it slides up beautifully until about half way, where it slows down and you hear the motor straining to raise the window. After clearing that half way mark it seems to proceed just fine until it reaches the top.

When it reaches the top, the window seems to rock forward in the guides- as in you can visibly see the window tilt forward and then sit back into the frame properly.

I've pulled the trim off again and lubricated all the friction surfaces. I've also pulled all wiring back against the door to ensure it's not rubbing or catching on the new wiring. I did a check of the door trims to ensure the window wasn't rubbing on the trim, but it seems to do the same thing even with the door trim (including the new speaker) completely removed. I also ensured the car battery was fully charged in case it was a current supply issue.

The greasing of friction surfaces seems to have helped somewhat, the window can now slowly finish the travel to the full closed position. Prior to this it would raise half way and then stop dead.

So now i'm turning my focus to the power window motor and regulator, not ruling out the guides.

EDIT: Should also mention the window goes up just fine if I rock the window forward by hand, as in grabbing the top of the glass and tilting it toward the front of the car, and allow the motor to raise it that way.

What I need to know is:

- Is it common for the power window assembly to fail in this manner in the Mitsubishi Magna & Verada lines?

- Is there anything to look for and attempt to fix before replacing the entire assembly?

- Should the regulator, motor, etc need replacing- how do I actually remove them from the door? Not so much a case of "which bolts need to be removed" but moreso how do you actually get it out of the frame. Looks to be a pretty tight fit.

Cheers
- Michael

-Lower the window
-Glass is held in by two little bolts, remove them, raise the glass manually and gaffa tape it up.
-Find and remove the 4 bolts holding in the assembly and then remove the assembly though one of the holes.
