OK what the hell is a pull clutch and why has Mitsubishi decided to use them on the Gen 3 manuals?? Anyway after disassembling 90% of the front end in order to access the gearbox and after supporting the thing as per instructions I proceeded to separate the box from the the engine. According to the Exedy facts sheet and photos it was simply a matter of placing a screw driver through the inspection hole and operating the cir clip that holds the release fork bearing from the pull section of the pressure plate WRONG !!!! Do this and you bend the clip and forever the gearbox remains attached to the car with no hope of separation. It is important for you to do this job BEFORE you separate the gearbox from the engine, making sure that the release fork remains compressed against the pressure plate, this is the only way the clip will release now you can put a screw driver in and the clip will release. I'll let you know how I go in separating the gearbox from the damaged cir clip. So far not looking good.

If you have never done this before it will get to the point where you wanna get the angle grinder out and cut the gearbox off. Once you have done it near 10 times like i have now its a 10second job.. Real crap idea. If it gets all too hard you can get the jaws of life and pry the box off.. You will destroy all the fingers on the clutch though.. Goodluck.

I thought i had released the bearing before pulling undoing the gearbox but hadnt done it properly. Once the gearbox was loose I found it much easier than when it was still bolted in. Also try practising on the new clutch and bearing, at least that way you will know what is ment to happen.

Yeah thats it. Make sure Gearbox is all the way back up against the block again. If not you will loose all your room to work inside. Box has to be against engine for clip to release too. So it might be an idea to put a bolt in the box to hold it back or a mate to push it up against the block so you can unclip it.

Job done Exedy Organic Clutch fitted all gears working fine took about a 1 km before I had a clutch though. No way I could get trust bearing to release so undid pressure plate from motor through gap where throw out fork comes out of gearbox, easy to release when sitting on the ground next to the car. Not impressed with amount of the front end that needs to be disassembled.
Anyway fixed now I'm over manuals if anyone wants a good Ralliart with new clutch and only 90k it will be forsale soon for about 15k.

Um, you say you needed half of the front of the car out ?
What did you take out mate, theres not a whole heap that needs to be removed inorder to get the box out. Its about a 4 hour job all up.
As for the bearing, you should of tried to shine some light through the top of the box, once you can see what your working with, its quite simple.
