no and yes

normally you can plug in a different ecu, but it wont work as it doesnt match the body electronics module (BEM)
however, being a TE it doesnt have one, only a reciever assembley,
ive never herd of a german magna.
if its getting too difficult to get it flashed
get a piggy back ecu,
i will hopefully go to a full stand alone soon, so ill sell ya my old one, so you can get it flashed and still keep your car on the road.
saying that however, unless you dont have any other mods, there is no point really.
only think i can think of is running the car on premium fuel, and advancing the timing.

Steve only does TF and onwards.

really i didnt think there was a difference between TE and TF ecu's
both dont run BEMS

can i ask a noob question? what does the ECU actually control? and what would getting a different one (or reprogramming the original) do?

Only ECUs to suit a TE are the 2.4 and the 3.0 ECU's, in manual and auto. Sports didnt come out until the TF and had no benefit over the normal TF ECU (in power terms).

No. They all have pretty much the same tune, some minor variations Id assume for emissions laws in differing countries however afaik no german magnas.

In short, forget the ECU idea, get an exhaust. Also punch ur mate in the face for suggesting ECUs to you.

IIRC, TE and TF ecus use different coding, steve knight only reflash's TF onwards, as he has only cracked the coding in those ecus. Correct me if I'm wrong...

ECU takes all the data collected by various sensors and controls the fuel and spark etc. Its the "brain" of the engine. There are power/torque gains to be had by getting your standard tune reflashed by Steve, or having an aftermarket one fitted and tuned more aggressively, 98ron, advance spark timing and stuff.

hmmm makes sense

Thats correct Steve Knight can flash TF onwards TE's were like TR-S with soldered in eproms (chip) which are not flashable.

Cheers Dave.
