hey all,

well i had some left over body deadener after doing the underbody and wheel archs and with the recent water leak in the boot, i decided to do the boot also thinking it cant hurt, well while i was standing at the sink washing the crap from my hands i was reading the label and noticed that it claims to be not only a body protector ( chips, rust, etc) but it also claims to be handy in acting as a mild sound proofer, (k&h brand)

just wondered if anyone else uses this and has found it to increase the quality of sound, personally ill use it just for the rust deterring and stopping rocks chipping away at my car but it would be interesting to know if it actualy does anything for sound?

Well im sure it might add a little sound deadening, but it would probably be barely noticable.

I used it for my parcel shelf and bootlid. worked fairly well for the price (compared to dynamat say) about $15 for a 1L tin, and that did the parcel shelf and the bootlid with some to spare.

I'd recommend it as a budget choice for it. It definately stopped them annoying little rattles, and sound qualitys a fair bit better. I'm quite sure it wont be as good as Dynamat, but it's 10x cheaper haha.

What is this body deadener based off?

Im guessing its bitumen based?

There's two things wrong with using this inside the car - first, the smell. Secondly, bitumen based deadeners can sometimes run.....and when they do god help you cleaning that mess up.

To get decent 'deadening' effet from these, they have to be piled on aswell, rather thick compared to say dynamat.

body deadener is usually bitumen based and if you apply 3 thick coats then it makes a good sound deadener

yeah its bitumen based,

i was using in the boot because of the recent leak, and i assumed it was not a replacement for quality items like dynamat, i am wondering though dyamat shouldnt have any problem sticking to the body deadener should it?
