As I noted in the "15" wheels without taking out a loan" thread, QIV 105 is no more; victim of an over-anxious right foot and a Holden Rodeo that went, but then stopped, at a famous local traffic black spot :(. Repair quote confirms that she will be written off, and so a new car has been procured.

SRE is a July 93 TR, maroon in colour, Automatic with Air, and only 157,000 kms on the clock. The body is tight, the suspension almost too stiff and it's just a bit too good to be true for only $2,500. EVERYTHING works as it should; well ALMOST everything, so I need some expertise.

The adjuster for the electric mirrors doesn't.

And the panel light for the Automatic-Mode button on the centre console doesn't.

My guess is fuse, and perhaps the same fuse for both? But if not, what, and if, where to find the blighter(s)???

I shall post a pic or two tomorrow, and hopefully sooner rather than later, some more with the 15" Verada wheels I purchased here recently.

The light may just be blown as it is a blown
electric mirrors not working, not sure if its on its own fuse...have a look at the fusebox cover and it should say what is what..

If that fails (or fuse is good) change the switch itself :)

As far as the dash light goes try a new bulb. Its a pain but good for you to know how to do.

my ts mirrors work 95% of the time but when they don't move then switch left then right etc...up and down on each side. Then it works..lol

Prob a bad earth but not the switch or mirrors from my guess.

I'll look into this soon as i hate not knowing why..!

Also check the fuses...there are sum under the hood as well as the foot well.

Cheers

Mirrors was the fuse, looks like I'm going to be delving into the bowels of the instrument panel for the other one

Thanks for the assistance :).

here's a pic of my new pride and joy

Very tidy and my fav color!

The globes you need to replace are very straight forward.

Dash cluster comes out without steering wheel removal just! All wires and cables are press fit so even easier...

Globes are all 1/2 turn fitment.....Change them all for blue lol if you like.

Center console is a piece off cake, theirs a thread on removal in here somewhere.

Regarding the transmission, like others have already said, it's probably just the bulb that has gone.

The transmission should still be in "power" mode when you depress the A/T MODE button to the 'down' position.

Easiest way to check :

If you are in Economy mode (A/T MODE button in 'up' position), the 3rd to 4th shift on a very light throttle or rolling downhill should occur around 36km/h.

If you do the exact same thing in power mode (A/T MODE in 'down' position), it will hold 3rd gear until 44km/h, then drop into 4th.

See if that works.....

hey hornet bit off topic but that street your new ride is parked on looks eerily familar, what part of nsw you live in?

is Warilla close (Wollongong area)???

Just noticed too that the "D" light on the transmission 'tree' in the instrument panel is blown too.

The old car has been quoted, but not assessed yet, so I have been indulging in a little 'upgrading' of the new car with some bits from the old, like the headlining, steering wheel, removing my towbar and wiring, a missing ashtray, etc, etc.

I had a service on SRE today and my mech says it's top notch, flagged a bad right rear tyre, which I knew about, and an early battery overflow which has corroded the battery carrier, but I have a replacement one of them, so it's all good.

And Pete, if you're reading this, the wheel nuts arrived yesterday, so soon I will be able to post a pic of SRE with nice Verada alloys.

So after a good wash and professional detail, here's SRE looking just gorgeous, with Peter's swoopy Verada alloys and some new tyres to boot :).

I'm really in love with this car; QIV was special because it was given to us by some wonderful friends at a time when we were in real need, but this car has had a soft life, and even though the auto has it chewing more fuel than the 5-speed manual did in the old car, everything else about it is fabulous.

{Mind you, while I had QIV here waiting for the assessors, some bits mysteriously jumped from it to the new car; strange that :lol:}

needs back to black on the plastic trim ASAP

please explain, what is 'back to black'??

Pretty sure "back to black" is a detailing product for black trims and rubber - restores depth of colour and a sheen to black parts which have faded a bit from sunlight. There are a few different products around with the same aim in-mind - making balck trim parts look "like new" and evenly coloured.

Having plugged them to the hilt, I've never used them!!

Car looks great - I STILL have such a soft-spot for the 2nd Gen shape - and those wheels look really good, can't say that I've seen them anywhere in 'real life".

The wheels I got off Peter_Pan, right here on the forum. The centre badge says Verada, but I think they are off a later-than-2nd-Gen Verada :? I think they set the car off just wonderfully.
As for the back-to-black stuff, I shall head off to Repco or Supercheap tomorrow and see what I can see, thanks for the tip.

They are KS EI rims, not a bad rim either

Mate, you have picked up a very tidy second gen there, look after it and I am sure it will do you many years

Fuel consumption question

I accept that the TR manual would have got better mileage than the same engine with Auto, but I'm questioning the gap between the two

QIV used to do almost exactly litres to kilometres round town, and better on a trip. I would regularly do 480 kms, for example, and put in around 48 litres, and on a trip could do 480 and put in around 42 litres (to full, each time).

SRE today did 480 kms and took exactly 56 litres. That's 11.6 litres/100kms in Froggy measurement, or 24.3 mpg in white-fella's measurement.

I'm just not sure that the auto-trans should be making that much difference. I had a service this week and the guy hooked it up to the computer and said it was all tickety-boo, but it still doesn't seem right to me........

Nice buy! Paint still looks to be in pretty good nick as well. Mines starting to wear through in some parts. On the bonnet in particular.

By the way ignore that heading... I was trying to make a new thread while half asleep by clicking on reply in an existing thread (idiot)
