Hi guys
I'm not a mechanical person but i will try to explain my problem the best i can - After having battery trouble i replaced the battery now my car just seems to drive not the way it was before its a magna tl auto and the gear changes dont seem to be as smooth as it was before. It seems like it changes at higher revs now and seems like its still applying accelerator slightly on the gear change, I guess sort of like if you were driving a manual and put your foot on the accelerator a bit while you pushed the clutch in to change gear. And also you know when your driving down the highway and you have that certain spot pressing down on the accelerator and you are always doing the same speed when you look at speedo well that speed used to be around the 100 for me now its around 85 so i kind of get the feeling i am doing more revs for less speed now. I have just had a 70000k service and i got the transmission flushed but it didn't seem to change anything. I have disconnected the battery to try to reset the computer but that didn't work although I have never actually tried disconnecting it for a extended period of time. Also while reading through the posts i came across a way to reset the transmission i think it was something like disconnect battery - reconnect and change from drive to neutral 5 times would like to try that but cant seem to find that post again now can anyone tell me the exact procedure for this.
Cheers

yeah, thats the ecu's adaptive driving style called INVECSII
give it a week or 2 should be normal again. disconnecting your battery will just reset it again.
basically it learns your driving style and tries to adapt to it.
so a grandma, it will shift at low revs, and vice versa.

ECU and INVECS are seperate.
Its actually the ECU relearning the engine, hense why so many people have stalling problems after the battery is disconnected, my bro had the same problem in a MANUAL TF (minus shift point issues obviously), the INVECS would only be affecting the higher shifts. So if you havent got stalling at random then you have it easy.

Nothing to worry about. My auto TL did the same thing after I disconnected the battery. You can make your transmission learn shift points again if you like by following these steps...
Find a long, quiet bit of road. Acellerate evenly from rest till the transmission makes its 2nd -> 3rd gearchange*. Once it's made that gearchange, gently apply the brakes till you come to a completely stop. Repeat this process at least 5 times.
*This gearchange should occur around 50-60km/h, and your acelleration should be constant and not varied at all.
The other thing to do is with the car stopped, place the car in P. Now change to R and count to 5, then down to N and count to 5, back to R and do this at least 5 times. Then follow the same procedure, starting in N, then go to D, then back to N, waiting 5 seconds each time, and go through this procedure at least 5 times ending with the transmission in P.

the official re-education process is: disconnect the battery for 10 mins, reconnect the battery, start the car and let it idle for 10 mins then take it for a drive (5k's should be ok)
this is esp. useful for those ppl with SA's that use the manual shift and then have issues in auto mode
i use it on all major services i carry out on gen3's esp. if ive done a trans flush

No. The official re-education process is as I stated. That is straight from the manual.
Here is the scan of the manual.

Ecu also controls the transmssion, invecs is the system that learns yourn driving habbits and alters shift patterns. His engine symptoms are not related the the invecs system. But Its still related to the ecu, I was refering to his shifting problems

Amazing what I learn on this forum. I'm resetting mine tonight.

Is the auto relearn procedure mentioned above also applicable to the 4-spd tippy in the KJ Verada?

The first time this happens it really freaks you out. I remember getting to the end of the street and as I decelerated to go round the corner the car just stalled and I just had to roll of to the side of the road. I have to admit without AMC I would have been very worried.
