Hi,

I just got a simple question. I have my 4x100wrms amp and front and rear speakers on the way. My head unit only has one preout (rear/subwoofer). Can I just use an y adapter RCA splitter and split it into two RCA preouts, then hook it up to my amp. Will this affect sound quality at all?

The other option is it to use a 4ch converter, which I have ordered because in the future I might use a subwoofer so I will need this, but it probably won't arrive for a month or so since its from the US.

Basically, what is the better option to go for. Other then having an extra preout for the subwoofer, will the 4ch converter have any advantages over splitting the RCA preout with y adapters.

Cheers.

unless the 4ch convertor has extra features then no

if you want to add a sub later then you can always split the output again and do the crossover on the subs amp

hmm, interesting.

Well I will just run with the RCA splitters, then when I get my 4ch converter I can hook that up and see if there is any difference (if I can be bothered).

So the signal definitely wont be weaker or degrade when splitting it?

Cheers.

shouldnt be... its a common practice to split 2 into 4+
amps use a voltage reference usually thru a coupling capacitor
if using mutiple amps then starpoint(single point) earthing is recommended to overcome ground noise

if your amp has an rca out then you can use that to feed the sub amp

you got a url for the 4ch convertor

I am pretty sure it is exactly the same as this (http://www.aerpro.com.au/list.php?pcode=AP3044&cat_name=New+Products&cat_no=&product_name=Four+Channel+Hi/Lo+Audio+level+converter&cat_sno=)

Yeah you can do it no probs but only having 1 set of preouts just means you won't be able to fade from front to back or left to right depending which way you hook them up. .

sweet, thanks for the info. I will just stick with splitting them then.
