HEY guys,
Just bought a 2005 TW ES Magna Solara for the mrs, it is black with 70,000kms. picked it up for $7,900 privately. seemed like a decent buy, its in immaculate condition and has full service history/books.
Firstly, im abit confused on the warranty, or if it has any factory warranty left, the car was purchased in OCT 05, on the front of the owners manual.. it mentions 5-10 yr warranty. does this mean it came with a 5yr warranty, so i actually have 12mths factory warranty remaining?? and i also read it claims 10yr warranty on drivetrain??
can anyone clarify for me how the warranty works, i just assumed it would have come with a 3yr warranty like most cars and would have been over...
Also, what the size of the factory speakers in the front and rear, as im considering upgrading the speakers in the rear and front. i dont want to make anything custom, just something that will bolt straight up without any dramas, and ill probaly get her a better headunit, as she wants to play Mp3 disks.
finally, it came with some 17inch avanti chrome mags with almost new Bridgestone Potenza tyres in 235/45.. the tyres are pretty expensive, but i much prefer the factory look, so if anyone in QLD has some decent factory wheels , i may be interested in a trade.
cheers guys

The 10 year drivetrain warranty was only for the original purchaser and not transferable. And the warranties start when the car was first registered not the year there built. Otherwise you buy a car new find it has been sitting in the yard for 6 months and your warranty is for 4.5 years not 5, wich would suck badly.
So in your books look at when the first owner registered the car and thats when the warranty starts, if in doubt ring mitsu service and give them the VIN and they'll tell you what warranty is left.

im aware the warranty starts when the car is first registered... what i wanted to know, did 2005 Magnas come with a 5yr warranty? or 3yrs like most makes.

Mines a 04 and has the 5yr warranty, but I missed out on the drivetrain. So yes yours will have the 5yr warranty.

thats interesting - mines an 03, but i got the whole 5 -10 warrenty thing on mine....
mine being demo / dealer drive car, im technically the first owner, so still have the balance of the 10year warrenty on mine :)
mitsy magnas where offered good warrenties (and into the 380s as well) from TL/TW, really trying to push the value for money side of things to encourage people to look past the (then unpopular) new face of the car..
as above - if in doubt, ring your mitsy service department and they will tell you what / if anything is left over for your warrenty

As for the speakers, someone will correct me if im wrong but they should be a 6inch up front and 6x9 in the rear.

Congrats on the buy, thats real cheap.
Last I looked, a few months ago, insurance replacement was 16000 for an 05' ES model.
Your warranty is for five years and it started at first registration, call 1300 13 12 11, MMAL have that info, 5-10 programme started 21st Dec 04.
The 10 year drive train is for the first owner only.
If you get it serviced, or the car has been serviced anywhere else, other than Mitsu dealers, you may have a hard time claiming on that warranty, so I'm finding out.
Head Units are easy to install with the Aerpro Wiring harnesses. The only thing they don't cater for is the Power aerial, which you'll have to connect via the Amp control wire from the head deck. I put a switch on mine, so I can make it stay down while listening to anything other than the Radio.
And choose lower wattage speakers, with the highest dB/Wm sensitivity rating you can get for the money. ie. they will make the most noise for the power given. For every 3 dB/Wm more it will double the volume for the same power given.
6x9 for the rear and 6.5" will fit in the front, but it is a 6" with a large perimeter. Go the 6.5"'s
Good luck with your Tyre Hunt.

Doddski is, again, an exception to the rule as he must have bought his car after 21/12/04 :)

if i buy a set of 6x9's and a decent set of a 6x5's for the front and just slap them in using the factory wiring/headunit... will i get any benefit at all for the time been till i can be bothered replacing the headunit/wiring/amp.
cheers!

Yeah mate it will sound better than the stock paper single cones you have in the rear now.
Do you have the splits in the doors, with tweeters up near the front? pictured.

I'm not sure if they carried over to the TWs but the stock speakers in my TJ were 15 watt eurovox. and terrible. You'd definately get some benefit from some good 2/3 way speakers on the stock head unit but its definately worth upgrading the head unit later on.
And yeah, mine (tj, so should be the same) was 6" in the front and 6X9 in the rear. Can i suggest keeping the stock speaker covers too? Lucky for us magna owners the stock speaker sizes are good so we dont need to have 'steal me' spacers and speaker boxes :D
