Just wondering what the best drop in cams would be for a 3.5 litre magna with extractors, exhaust & greddy. A set of ralliart or rpw ones to give the best bang for buck mod?
Cheers.
you would be better off joining in on the group ECU flash...probably get more power easier and cheaper than just small cams....unless of course you're planing more mods further down the track.

Got a greddy already tuned. Lookiong for some extra torque and power without spending to much right now. Considering some ralliart heads down the track too.

Biggest problem with the ecu tune is only one person in the country can re-tune it. Which is great for that blokes business, but he's not exactly local should a qld'er ever need a retune.

id go with ralliart cams if i was you, only because everyone that gets custom cams for the 6G74 has heartache.
rpw cams are unproven and overpriced at best, tighe are untrustworthy and put out a third rate product on a good day, any other cam grinders in australia hang up when you say magna.
as most on here know, finding good cams is the main problem when it comes to modding a magna

BJ31OS got some Tighe cams and the "professionals" put the dowel pin in the wrong position.
The level of awesomeness was succeded only by the price.

BJ31OS is the only person i can think of off the top of my head whos cams actually worked, he won the lucky dip! lol
the 380 Magna race boys have done alright with Tighe.

Yes but you will pay for it... Ralliart cams are probably the best bang for your buck.

I have some Ralliart cams surplus to our requirements. PM me for a price it's more than reasonable.
Cheers Dave.

rpw dont make any cams at all, they used to use tighe but claim to have changed supplier

What sort of gains would you expect without the ralliart heads and pistons?

With just Ralliart cams? No tune? With a tune, maybe 10kwatw? Without, probably less.

according to rpw website:
RPW has access to both the Crower range of turbo spec camshafts and our own billet / custom grind profiles as well.

And RPW's website is full of BS. As has been said before at this stage Tighe engineering are the only ones making blank billets and ground cams for the V6 magna. By all means use RPW if you wish but be warned.....:io:

VRX cams are the same as any other non ralliart TJ number "6" cam

Just had a drive of a mates 2002 ralliart. VERY nice car. It really pulls hards after 4000 rpm, but my 3.5 magna seems a lot punchier in first and second? Is this to do with the cams? Or could it be to do with the fact that my 3.5 is using a 1998 TF 5 speed gear box?

The 3L 5speed manual has a lower first gear than the 3.5L manual.
To be honest when i was driving alot of ralliart magnas back in my MMAL days there was bugger all between them when compared to the manual vrx/sports

Ash,of couse you are forgiven, it's all leaning for eveyone on here. As Jason said your're not going to notice the gains untill you get up in the power range. Thats cams for you, if you want more everywhere get a blower.
Cheers Dave.

just that i read in multiple press and even some trade info that the vr-x has a better exhaust and cams that when used together and the ecu is tuned it gives gains of +16kw over stock
now ive got extractors and a lukey rear exhaust in my TJ.... does that mean my dads TL VR-X is toast?:woot:

The TJ 3.5 used different cams to the TH 3.5 models hence where that is coming from. The different rear muffler on the TJ sports/vrx and KJ GTVi is what gave the most power gain over the other tj/kj models

I've got the TJ series 1, which was 150kw factory. dont they have the same cams as the TH 3.5? I always thought the TJ1 vrx models had a different cam/muffler/tune while all TJ2 magnas (the 155kw factory spec) had the vrx cam, but lacked the zorst and tune.
However, if i'm wrong, please correct this as it makes my car better than i thought.
