I was driving back from victoria to wagga and near wagga there's this sharp turn that was not shown on my GPS, i was doing 105kmh. I tried to slow down but the car skidded and hit the sidewall. I wonder how much would it cost to fix it. I don't have comprehensive insurance. I feel so terrible right now.

Drift gone wrong? :bowrofl:

Nah i'm kidding! That sucks mate:(, As your coming to a corner, wouldnt it be common sense not to take it at 105km :P, Even though the GPS didn't show it, im sure you would have seen a corner!

Fix will be a pain....Especially if youve done structual damage.

New Headlight... New Front guard, New Front bar (If they cant be panel beaten)

Rule 1, never use the GPS as a rally style co-pilot ... maybe next time watch the road :hmm:

Oh and that'll buff out.

there was no sign to slow down before the corner. the bonnet was pushed back a little, i think i dont need a new bonnet. but i wonder if the side panel need to be replaced or it can be panel beaten. after i thought about it maybe i shouldn't have floor the brake pedal, it's a magna of course it would understeer. gosh :headbange :disgusted

thats minor damage really..

new guard (cheaper to get a good one from a wrecker than to repair)
new head light
new indicator

depending, might be Rad support / head light support panel damage too. cant really tell from the pics.

if your lucky at the wreckers, might get a guard the same colour as yours, saves on painting
might need a repair on the bonnet tho....

now is a good time to put paras in!!!! your already replacing one headlight.. why not do both the same?!

just out of interest... did you not notice the corner coming up on the road?
sucks that car got damaged tho :(

EDIT - from the pics, dont look like your rad support will be damaged, looks like the headlight tabs broke (cheaper option that rad / headlight support panels)
also - prolly cheaper to get another front bar from a wreckers.

might be looking at about... 1500 or so if you do it yourself with wreckers parts maybe?

a para would cost like twice the normal headlight? i was thinking maybe i should get a para too. i just didnt see the corner. 1500 that's like half the price of the car. so u reckoned the side panel can be panel beaten? 1500, guess i gotta borrow from my friend or something, still a student, sigh

Going to be expensive to fix, they wont' bother beating out that front guard, cheaper to buy a new one

All so they'll probably have to respray the whole front end (bonnet, guards, bumper) if you want a good job

Sucks, but I wouldn't trust my GPS as far as I could throw it

EDIT: the 1500 is if you do it yourself, that would probably be close to a write off? My agreed value is just over 4 I think and thats a 98

you would want to get two paras - look a little odd one para and the other exec style :P

depends where you go, to what you pay. hunt ebay might be able to pick up a cheap set, here people sell them too.
i would say that 1500 would be a good starting point, might go up in price / value.
best thing to do, go to a panel beater that gives free quotes get them to quote it up so you know what its worth to get done professionally.
source the parts yourself, if your lucky then might get parts that dont need painting so that saves you money there.
you can also ask the panel beaters to quote on second hand parts too for the quote. keep in mind they have good buying power so they may charge it to you at 200 bucks, but its only cost them 100 to buy the part then 20in freight. they just made 80bucks profit on that one guard! (example only, not saying thats what it would cost)

the front guard could be repaired - but looking at about... 7 or so hours worth there (maybe more) cheaper and easier in the long run to get a new guard.

Sadly I don't have super humans powers and neither does my GPS, freezes... drops out in the city all the time... Bloody tomtoms lol

Yep, 7 hours at 50 an hour? Maybe more... 350 dollars could buy a new guard well and truly

Not a huge deal
New bumper = $150
New bonnet = $200
New side-guard = $100
Paint = $250
Light = $50
Labour = $300ish.

I had my entire front end destroyed and all up cost me $4300 to fix.

250 for paint of a bumper/bonnet/guard and most likely the other guard?

Spray can?

I assume you only have 3rd party insurance cover then?

If you don't have the money, then you have few choices. You aren't going to sell it over just that, you aren't going to spend $1500 and I wouldn't be borrowing for it. Fix it properly when you can afford to.

Ask around, even here there could be someone nearby who has at least a basic grasp of panel beating who could be able to get much of that straightened out for a dinner and drinks or something... all you would need then hopefully is a second hand light and indicator and a can of paint!

You are not going to have a great job but as long as it is relatively straight, safe and not likely to rust and you have working lights who cares if it is not very great to look at! Don't send yourself into debt over it, you won't get your money back.

I don't want to jinx you but who's to say some moron slams into it a year later and it gets repaired under insurance etc... wont you be kicking yourself.

Live within your means.

mate looking at the pic's and looking at jolly's prices your up for
bonnet $71 (if needed)
guard $59
f/bar $72
h/light $39
blinker $14
total $255

$184 if you dont need the bonnet.

if your lucky you can get panels the same colour judging your colour code is HH.

rad/ head light support might have a small bend but not much to straighten out (i have recent experience).

don't worry its not that bad mate.

erm westside that price is from a wreckers?
i went to a smash repairer and got quoted a total of $1600 that's ridiculous.
he charged
Front bumper $300
headlamp $135 (i saw on ebay for onli $93 brand new)
flasher lamp $66 (is this indicator light?)
side guard $180
guard liner clips misc $40

it was $700 just for the parts

for the labour it costs $733.

I went to a wrecker this morning but i only saw 2 3rd gen magna but the front was smashed.

Hi-
If you can get the panels from a wrecker, auto one can mix paint from your paint code if you know someone with a compressor?
My Dad hit a roo with his navarra and did similar damage- he paid and I sprayed- all up came to about $500.
Check that the original paint hasn't faded too much though or you end up with a checker board for a car!

sean112
22-04-2009, 05:12 AM
Sorry...afterthought-
The gaurd we replaced on the navarra was an aftermarket one- brand new in black primer only cost about $30 more than something from a wrecked car and was dead straight.
The steel used was thinner than factory but when bolted up was as ridged as the rest of the car.
Maybe you could ask if they can get somthing like that for you?

just got it quoted at a cheaper place 550 for the repair and painting, excluding the parts which i have to source it myself. i think i'll get a front bumper off ebay for about 100$ the sideguard from a wreckers and a rhs headlamp for 90. in total it's gonna cost me around 1000 but it is still better than 1600 without painting. talking about badluck i hit an avalon back bumper this arvo.. man :headbange :(

Sorry to hear about the crash. At least you are not hurt. This reminds me of a news article involving a brit who followed his GPS til his car got stuck on a cliff. He blindly followed his GPS and drove onto a dirt road, crashed through fencing and ended up half off the cliff.

I had a similar incident which did not result in a collission thankgod. I was in my old KS with mags and lowered sports suspension. Travelling at 115km/hr with 5 people in the car and boot load of fishing/camping gear. Was too late to slow down (saw the 70km/hr safe speed sign for the right bender but did not register). I went thought it without slowing down at all. To my astonishment, the car did not slide at all. My brother mentioned a few seconds later whether I realised there was a slow speed sign.

My total guess was $1050 so not far off :-)
That's experience for ya mate, I been through this myself, except I had to buy an entire front cut hahaah... which ended up being quite reasonable value for $1500.

well i bought a bumper and a side guard for $350 and i'm looking for a pair of parabolics which could cost around $250 i guess. I got quoted for $550 to fix it including the painting. so yeah it cost around $1050 or 900 if i opt for normal headlamps.
