Picked up a muffler from the local wreckers 2 days ago off a 3.5 TH for $30 destined for my bros TF, its clearly not standard and has a tip attached onto it (not welded i dont think). Now i was just wondering if anyone could tell me what it is off with the serial number "J1B - 42", Ive searched google but havent found anything. Looks like it could be off either a 380 or an EVO. All the piping on it is welded on as is the flange.

Cheers.

Parker,

The number stamped on my stock 380 muffler is J18-42 (with a Mitubishi diamond in front), see attached pic.

The number is reasonably clear in the pic.

That's J18 instead of J1B, and I'm guessing you misread the 8 as a B.

So I reckon you have a stock 380 muffler.

It's about the same diameter and cross section as a stock TF muffler but a little shorter.

Mounting brackets are different though.

Should weld up OK, and will be nice & quiet (if restrictive).

Excellent, thanks for that.
I was under the impression that the 380 muffler was a straight through muffler, so wont it be better than the TF muffler?

Parker,

The stock 380 muffler is definitely not straight through and it's quite restrictive, that's why a lot of us seeking a few more kw replace it with a straight through design.
