No. Don't bother. Sell up and buy an AWD model =)

So, so much work involved in doing that.

The floorpan is different between the FWD and AWD so no you won't be able to do this conversion.

Its easy, Sell yours and buy an AWD.
Definately, cheaper, no mod plates, no firewall changes.

yeah thats what i thought but nah ill stick with my verada its already got the base that i want for moding so yeah ill compromise drive for looks ;)

you arent compromising drive completely. sure, the awd can throw itself through corners a lot better, but it is heavier so affects straight line speed. Also more driveline loss so less power to the wheels. Front wheel drive can be made to handle very nicely with the right mods

Exactly. I have driven an AWD and i liken it to my FWD towing a 6x4 trailer (full) all the time. And as far as handling goes they both have the same limits of adhesion and ultimate handling but the AWD reaches those limits more progressively.

Dont sell your gtv to buy an awd one, your rada is hot as it is.
Just do a few little mods to make it look better.

Sort of OT, but I saw a show on Foxtel where Jay Leno converted a car from FWD to AWD (1966 Toronado from memory). Cost a fortune, I got the distinct impression he did it because he could do it and he could afford to do it. Issues like "no tunnel for drive shaft, redo the floorpan" etc (his driveshaft was made from carbon fibre too!). And I would expect that sort of conversion would require an engineering cert etc.

It's one show I'm actually wanting Foxtel to repeat.

Regards, Tony

i think the only sensible thing about this thread is what 'J' did to his Tornado.....loved the look of them when i was a kid....even at that age i could'nt believe it was a B.B. FWD though.

It cant be done without massive $$$. Would be a totally pointless exercise.

The toronado was changed from the East/West to North/South configuration, thats why a tunnel and gearbox hump had to be made and to do a North/South AWD conversion would require a transfer case.
I would stick to what you have, they are an awesome car especially as a GTV unlike my Ei plus AWD would mainly benefit wet weather and winedy roads.

For those who don't know what the Toronado was, it was an Oldsmobile with 287kW/644Nm 7.0L, and was very much FWD. Average roadgoing weight 2300kg. Supposedly good for 7.5s 0-60mph sprint.
