Just after some ideas for stone chip protection for the front of my car.
Please don't mention car bra's. I've seen the silent gradual damage these evil suckers inflict on your car that you'll never see until you take it off.

Don't drive too close to cars in front or beside you on roads with loose pebbles.
Ultimately, your car will be stone chipped no matter how you protect it. Unless someone can invent a Anti Pebble Laser or something?

keep it polished and bugs will wash off easy, for stone chips- dont tailgate.

buy a Commodore and drive that. that way you can chip it, get bugs on it, scratch it and dent it and nobody will give a toss! As long as that massive Holden sticker on the back window stays in tact!!

The problem with the plastic guards for the front of your bonnet is that the stones hit it and then bounce so that they hit further up the bonnet where the plastic doesn't guard. Then when you take the guard off you find the front 10cms of your bonnet is perfect and the rest is stone chipped

Unless you get dirt, leaves, pollen, etc stuck under the plastic guard and it all rots and eats into your paintwork. Then it will match with the chips further up the bonnet! Also, people who put or keep louvers (spelling) on the back window of their cars are knobs. Get those damn things off there! When you finally come to your senses and take it off the glass will be permanently scuffed to buggery and will look even crapperer when you get it tinted!

I've actually seen some pretty nice Magna's with the blinds on the back.. mmm... I actually said to myself 'Damn I need one of those things' but then I came to my senses.
My bonnet is covered in chips which is strange because the front bar is almost perfect. There would be 10+ chips and most are rusting. I even have chips on my roof. How's that for screwed up? My main problem is tar which sticks rearward of the wheel arches.. but also as far up as the boot lid and the bonnet. It is really hard to see all of it.. really hard to get off, even with tar remover and just loves to go all gooey and smudge. I do intend to clean my car 'Super-DUPER' in the next few months and stick a coat of wax on the car to help combat this tar though.

ESPECIALLY behind Trailers and Road Trains on the highway... I had a few bad experiences from those massive machines...

I think alot of paint places would paint your bonnet for around $200 anyway...
So while prevention is always better.. ultimatly no matter what you do (other than driving in a bubble) you are going to get marks on your bonnet... I was so causious about not getting stone chips and marks on it .. then some little kid comes along and scratches it with a rock anyway...:(
So IMHO Id say do your best to limit the degree of marks .. (When coming upto road works or dirt roads.. slow down adn move left.. stuff the people behind.. its your car and youll follow 50m behind the car in front if want. In alot of cases they dont go for that long anyway.)
And tehn when you come to get rid of your car and if get it detailed and you look at the chips and think "they are bad" then pay the $200 and get it painted.

I've heard of a type of clear tint you can get stuck onto your bumper or where ever, some fella with an STI wrx had it done on his front bar, not sure how much it cost him or where he got it done, (some tinting place) but it was there to protect the front bar from dings and scratches, although the plastic film might end up looking like ****e anyway, getting all sratched up itself, so it would almost defeat the purpose.
