Hey guys,

a mate of mine has offered me his subs and amp for $1000 any way they are JVC subs and a fusion amp. The subs are 12" and they are white and apparently they are competition subs. and the amp is a Fusion its long and black with fusion on it in green. It puts out 1400 rms and its a 4 channel amp. I've got him down to $700 , do you think its a good buy?

EDIT: they have been in a sound off and they put out 139db, he has the sheet to prove it

well the amp sounds like one from the reactor range and the main 4 channel they have is http://www.fusioncaraudio.com/australia/car-audio-1/amplifiers-7/ream90040-39-product.aspx

that particular amp is okish, many years ago fusion were great however like sony, when they fall they fall a mile and although a half decent amp you can buy them new for around to 300.00 mark! they are also the model up from the basic nothing speacial at all.

jvc as far as i know just have subs they dont do comp subs however here is their product page
http://www.jvc-australia.com/JVC/client/c_products_group.jsp?id=31

either way if you have a grand to be spending on audio gear buy new, as a sidenote buying from mates can get complicated when things arnt what they are expected to be so just be wary of that also, personaly if i had a grand for car audio sitting here id b going out and buying new soundstream gear

hope this helps

As some others have said, wouldnt touch ex-comp systems with a 10ft barge pole.

There's better ways to spend $1000 aswell.....fusion amps arnt all that expensive either.

Up to you, its your car and your system.

I don't know too much about subs and amps, I only just purchased my first amp recently, but for $1000 you could go out and buy some great NEW equipment (online that is, rip off in local stores). Look into the jaycar range of amps, as that is what I have ordered and have heard great reviews on and are at a great price. Depends on how much into car audio you are, If you don't really care that much but still want great sound I would go jaycar. I will be posting a review on these forums when I get them installed which should be in the next week or so.

not sure if you realise but there are overhead costs related to stores rather than online. thats why things may be a bit more expensive rather than a rip off. now, the great thing about paying a little bit more in the store is that most of you DONT KNOW what you are looking for and will buy the cheap crap you are sold with max power figures. this is what professional audio stores know best - they will advise you on whats best suited for your car and your system for your budget. when getting started, seeing a professional (not jb hifi or strathfield), is the best way to avoid disappointment.

I understand that there are overhead costs related to stores, and that is why they are often a lot more expensive. But I mean if you can buy something cheaper elsewhere, why not? And I partially disagree about paying more in the store to get the advice from a professional. Yes, go to a few local stores and talk to the professionals, find out exactly what you want/need etc, then, go online and purchase it for more often then not a fraction of the price. Also the problem with buying from stores is that a lot of the time they try to sell you something with their best interests in mind, not yours.

Obviously I am just speaking from my personal experience and that will differ between individuals, so no flaming is needed.

Anyway we have gone off topic a bit here.

Cheers

if you poke about you can find a mad system for under 1000. i got a pioneer head unit, some 6x9's and a jl audio W12 sub all installed with an amp i already had for 900. have a look about and dont be scared to talk JB hifi into giving you floor stock. that's where i got the sub from and i saved about 300 on it and have never had a problem with it.

As has been said, you'll need model numbers to see if it's good value or not, 12" subs range from $50 to $5000 :P
If he's sayig they are comp grade.. they were probably the warren G series from JVC
do they look like this?

I wouldn't touch it.

Maybe I would buy the amp for $250.
