A mate of mine has got some flares for his car, the fenders are metal and the flare are fibreglass, whats the adhesion like for the two? he was going to FG the flares to his fenders to make it smoother... any suggestions?

my suggestion would be to screw & urethane (sikaflex) them to the gaurd, then use body filler to smooth over the ridge/fill the holes..

thats what i thought as well, how good does body filler work for said job though?
Plastibond? instead instead of bog?

out of all the full body resto's i've done, body filler is perfect, provided you use it correctly, and prep over that area before paiting.. it's not just somthing you can smash on, and blow a coat of paint over the top of..
and for gods sake, don't get it wet.. have you or him done any body filing/panel beating/paint prepping before?

i used fg on my old car where one of the sideskirts got punctured by a steel rod, but not body filler
what he planned to do was put the flares on a fibreglas a it that went across the gap, using material of some sort, guessing that wouldnt work haha

ah... no.... it wouldnt... and fiberglass resin has heaps of bubbles in it.. which you would need to fill with a good highbuild prime, or poly resin before topcoats...
what i would do...
buzz the area with some 80ish.. take it back to primer/metal, sikaflex the fiberglass lips to it, (clamped as per the directions).. allow to dry.. then bog the small ledge, and shape the bog as desired.. then you would need to prime and paint that..
OR... i don't know how smooth he wants it.. but with the little plastic trims over the arches/doors of my old GT starlet.. we ran some white sikaflex over the gap.. so there wasn't a sharp edge where the moulds have been stuck on.. and painted over that.. this was done after we rubbed back the high build, about 2 days before we did the topcoat.. (solid 2k white)

Wouldnt the sikaflex allow for movement of the flare and possibly crack the bog once moved too much?

with clamped sikaflex not really.. that **** is crazy... but i would screw it also...
bog nowdays is nothing like back in the old days where the **** used to fall out, crack etc etc... the stuff does flex a bit..
but yeh... if it was me, i would just sikaflex the flares on, then sikaflex a nice bead around the edge of the flare to the guard.. paint sticks to urethane like stink..
