Heaps of thread on this mate, have a search.

I just got my cars body colour matched and put into an spray can, and just bought the primer recommended to by the paint specialist.

I've done mine recently.

I just used $11 spraypaint from bunnings with a few soft coats, some of it i used primer but on most I didn't.

turns out good, for the first few weeks it'll smell like paint, but it goes away (or i got used to it :P) after a while.

looks pretty good too.

Tips;

-Do not use $3 enamel spray paint for primer, color or clear, EVER. I learnt this the hard way when learning.
-Get a heat gun - This makes the paint drying process SO quick.
-To get a smooth ass finish for tha paint to go on. after primer has been applied (dont be afraid with it) you can spray on whats known as a "guide coat" which is basically that cheap $3 crap enamel (in black) dusted over the surface so it looks like thousands of dots. once these are sanded off (1200G if possible) you know the primer surface is completely flat to apply paint on
-Be patient, dont rush, do it one stage at a time. if you rush, you will F up.
-Do a few layers of clear on top, dont be afraid, after it has been applied and dried for at least 24 hours you can 2000 wetrub it down and polish it with a buffer for an insane shine. ;)

when i painted mine i used a plastic adhesive primer ( a few light coats then one or two think coats) then i hit it with the colour tufftr pretty much has mentioned everything. if you dont have a heatgun steal ur missus's hairdryer (make sure u wash the paint of ur hands before touching it ... gotta hide the evidence :ninja: ) they work just as good.another thing is make sure you sand your plastics first before you apply anything (just wanna make the plastic dull) this will ensure the primer stick properly which inturn will ensure the paint sticks well and last but not least once all is painted and put back together take a seat in ur car have a look around n whisper the word .................sex:woot:

It pays to get the prep work done properly, as they say, that's the most important part. I'm fortunate to have a cousin who spray paints, so he did my interior parts with primer and a spray gun and it looks really good, better than the silver in Ralliart's even.

Paulina, what grit sandpaper do you use....do you gradually work down, or just go with a fine grit from the start?
