Hi my remote key fob doesn't always lock the car on first push and I'm wondering if the battery is going. On the old Magna it was easy to open the remote using a knife blade to prise it open to replace the battery but the 380 key fob doesn't seem to want to open like this. Has anyone done this?

I've noticed with mine, it almost never locks on the first press and usually takes two or three goes (regardless of how close standing to car, which side standing, etc etc). But unlocking is much easier. Both keys are the same, but it doesn't bother me.

Yeah weird that unlocking is ok. Sure it never used to do this though which is why I want to check the battery

Same with me - unlocks no worries first press, even from 20+ metres away, but locking is a completely different story.

Hardly ever works first time, often have to try four, five or more times before it works.

Doubt it has anything to do with a dodgy battery though, when I bought mine 6 months ago the dealer fitted a brand new battery, seeing as the existing battery was over two and half years old.

I reckon there's a good chance it's just a generic fault with the remote and/or locking relay.

Either that or the remote's on the way out. But then why are there no problems with unlocking?

I've never had any probs with either of my remotes. Just one press for unlock/lock does it.

No issues here.

Only complaint I had about the key can be fixed easily through the computer.

I think I have found both the problem & the solution.

Went into the local dealer just now to order a couple of parts, and explained the 'remote locking doesn't work properly' problem to the bloke on the service counter.

He cracked open the remote fob (insert screwdriver in slot near key base & twist) and firstly tested the battery - nothing wrong with it.

He then noticed that the internal mechanism on the lock button side was a little loose or 'open', and most likely wasn't connecting properly when the lock button was pressed.

He superglued it up tight and now it works good as new, locks first time every time.

Fingers crossed it stays that way.
