hey guys,

i just bought a 93 tr executive wagon 2.6 manual with a blown head gasket, i fixed the gasket and she fired up first go, and idled fine.... the when it warms up it slows down to 500 and usually stalls when i pull up at the lights... i adjusted the idle screw so it idles fine when warm... and now when its cold it idles at 1500-2000 and comes back down to a normal idle after 15 minutes driving/temp guage gets to a quarter.... is that normal?? is that the ISC thing?

also... is the check engine light supposed to flash on for a couple of seconds everytime you start the car so you know the globe isnt blown? i tried to pull the codes and i dont know if my multimeter isnt reading the voltage sweeps properly but i think im getting the "all clear" continuous short flashes..

also im gunna do a search on v6/verada brakes because ive got a heap of brake shimmy (i think thats the technical term) but if anyone wants to tell me what bigger brakes bolt on i'd appreciate it

oh yea... i paid $250 for the vehicle... 236000km... no noticeable engine noise... drives like a dream... with 6 months rego it cost me $690 (i did the head myself)... the paint is pretty faded... would anyone say thats a good deal or could i have bought the same vehicle for $700 out of the trading post?

thanks in advance for any and all help.. unless you say something that doesnt help, then you can burn in hell

cheers,
rob

Sounds like the idle up solenoid.............

had the same prob with my v6.......they fail on all models at descent mileage.

the idel screw is a quick fix but wont do much except stop stalling sometimes.

fit a new one and put the screw back to the bottom.

should drive like new.

yer isc thing...

cool... so what does isc stand for? idle speed controller or something? what should i ask for to avoid any potential confusion at the wreckers?

thanks for the quick response... also on the low side of the idle spectrum the idle tends to wander abit... about 200rpm... would that be the thingo too or could i have an air leak? if i had a vacuum guage id just check the damn thing myself

Yeah, idle speed controller, just buy a new one from ebay. (looks like there is none there, try bursons)

thanks heaps....

now about the check engine light..... if the ecu registers an error should the light come on and stay on? and what is/is there an error code for a faulty ISC?

Not sure of the code...

but! they don't always give one.!! as they still work but not right.

they ware out slowly and become unreliable. same as o2 sensors.

you will only get a code if it fails 100% or needs a reset.

Replace isc and go with that..if you use excess fuel change o2.

o2 shouldn't effect idle, or cold start.

a good mech can reset ecu if needed in under 5 mins. the tools needed are very dear so they may charge for the use of that.

my mech is good and said owe me a beer. just go on a slow day or Friday arvo (late)..lol and bring beer!

check light should be on or off!

no worries! it only comes on for 2 seconds when i start the car.....

rather than flood the forum with 100 single question topics is it alright if i just ask everything in here?

1)CV's: how do i tell if the inners or the outers need replacing? it clicks turning left or right... quiet on the straights... i got quoted $300 for complete new driveshafts fitted but i'd rather just do it myself... and i dont think theres anything wrong with my old shafts.... my question is are my inners or outers gone? forgive my ignorance as this is my first fwd mitsubishi... love the scorpions though :)

2)and can the CVs be causing the wobbly braking? pretty sure my discs are warped but if anyone tells me something simple to check it can only save me money :) poor uni students like saving money!

thanks guys

p.s..

3)i have 195/70(?) 14s on it.. are 205/60 15s that much dearer... someone told me theyre cheaper because of all the fleet vehicles they go on or something... i can get some el falcon chasers for next to nothing... how much will they stick out the guards? (on account of the offset) should i keep an eye out for BA rims instead?

Well i had warped rotors and my CVs are stuffed atm, i replaced my rotors and it got rid of the wobbly braking so it might just be your rotors causing the wobbling because replacing rotors on my cars solved the problems, mine doesnt shake anymore and i still need to replace my CVs, $300 installed for replacing cvs sounds like a good price to me, i got quoted $399 for just the shafts at a parts shop here:nuts:

yea... crazy.... i took my car to the radiator place (town of 10000 people = one radiator shop) because i figured it would be cheaper to change the top tank instead of buying a whole new radiator (the outlet on the top tank is kinda snapped off)... $60 for a new tank... sweet i thought... but the bastard wanted $140 to put it on.... grrr :( havent priced a radiator yet, but hopefully i was wrong... how do you prevent the spouty bit from breaking off? ive heard it happen to a few people (in the real world, not on here)

question: will an ICS off a 1st gen efi magna (the one with red writing on the plenum) work on my gen 2 (black writing)? i just remembered i got a whole top end sitting somewhere that i was gunna chuck on the scorp but never got around to it

question 2: i chucked in the cd player and 6x9s in boxes out of my other car... but i was wondering, if my car came from the factory with more than 2 speakers.... where would the other two go? im not a fan of speakerboxes, something about them screams "smash the window, unplug me, and take me home with you.... grab the head unit while your here" but maybe thats just me...

thanks,
rob

p.s. to anyone concerned about me not rolling on some decent wheels i won some 15" 97 magna alloys with 70% rubber for $200 off ebay... cant wait for them to arrive... theyre the five spoke ones with the gaps in the spokes... i like them anyway...

no worries! it only comes on for 2 seconds when i start the car.....

the rotors are warped i think....?

get good dba's to solve the issue.

And yes use a different thread for different issues.
