I have a bad oil leak on a 3.0 V6 TS Magna auto. The leak is coming from a cavity above the engine block casting that the oil filter aluminium housing bolts to. The oil then runs down onto the oil filter and housing onto the sump then drips onto the subframe. The sub frame is saturated. I degreased and hosed down the engine and after only about 10 to 15 km the sub frame is saturated again. I am losing a lot oil. This is on the front cylinder bank of course, on the front side where the exhaust & spark plugs are.

Any other opinions on what the leak could be would also be helpful.

did you degrease under the engine? then when clean see where it's coming from?
Could be anything, didnt you already start a thread very similar to this?

Could be a few things, have you had a mechanic check it out?

Yes I did start a thread elsewhere as I thought I was on this forum but it turned out I wasn't and I thought I might get more responses here.

BTW I don't use mechanics. I do all my own work. This is my son's car and he has only just told me about the problem. I have explained in the initial post where the oil is coming from. That was the point in degreasing the engine in the first place.

I was just hoping someone could give me some likely advice on where the leak may be coming from so I don't have to half disassemble the motor to find it.

What are the few things that you think it could be?

Cheers

I'm not familiar with these motors, but could it be a worn gasket letting the oil through?

did you have a photo? It might help people understand where it's coming from.

Serioulsy.....why even post that...obviousy it "could" be a gasket, but thanks for that post anyway, just in-case he overlooked gaskets :tired:

Thanks BlazinTP for your reply. You weren't far off the money. It turned out to be the front camshaft seal. All fixed now. No need for a mechanic on this SMALL task. You said "worn gasket", worn seal is not too far off from that. At least I appreciated your post anyway.

Cheers
