Hi guys,
I need some new tyres.
I would like to get some reasonable mid range tyres, my car is not driven hard so i cant see any point to buying super expensive tyres, (plus my budget doesn't really allow it at the mo)
anyway... i need 235/40/18's
I would be nice if you guys could recommend some tyres and also the prices you have managed to get them for, maybe i can use some information as a bargaining tool when i go to shop for some.
Any help much appreciated.
Edit: I have heard of these tyres called Bluestreak or something? what are peoples experiences with them? prices?

235/45/R18 Maxxis MV1
Mixed reviews about them but for the price, pretty good tyres, I find they hold in the wet relatively well
I got them 150 a tyre, trade price

Is $270 out of your price range? If not, you can get Michelin PP2's in 235/40/18. They are one of the best tyres in that price range. I bought a set of these last Friday for my Mazda for $241 so there are bargains around, although I would have happily paid the usual price of $270 for tyres this good.

I still have those nankang tyres which came with the wheels originally, and been using them since. THey have good grip, due to the soft compound, but are bloody noisy and **** in the wet. They are about $170 - $180 each.
Going to get something around the $250 mark next. Sick of those cheap **** tires.

I've got 19s, but have been through a few sets of tyres. Stay away from Nankangs, they're rubbish, they wear funny, have terrible tyre noise and sure are rubbish in the wet. Maxxis are quite good and I've also had Wan Le's, they're good for the price and provide good grip and wear well, but again do have tyre noise.

I've got the PP2's on my EVO and they're rubbish. Ok in the dry, but really bad in the wet - lots of understeer. My old Yokohama Advan AD07 are a superior tyre, and cheaper to boot.
For the street and for a Magna I'd just try to find some Bridgestone Potenza RE001 or the MAXXIS MAZ-1. Something of that quality. If I recall correctly, the MAZ-1's I had on my Ralliart were around $230 a corner I think.

 from me. MA-V1's are really good bang for buck IMO. I can give it the beans wet or dry and they stick hard.

Maxxis MA-Z1 are excellent tyres particularly in the wet. Good wear too. Last price was about $200 for 235/40 x 18 but that may have changed with exchange rates and retailers desperate for sales.
The new Maxxis Victra i-pro is even better but is hard to find in Australia so you may have trouble getting a good price.
For 235/40 x 18 make sure to use wheels at least 8" wide.
Incidentally the MA-V1 has only got a 91V load rating so lower than standard spec. the Z1 and i-Pro are both 95 load rating, so are above spec.
Cheers,
Alan

MA-V1s also come with a 95 load rating. I had these tyres on my Rada. Lugo has them on his Rada as well.

Agree with this. But, where are you able to get Advan Ad07s for in Australia ? And cheaper than the PP2, wow, last time I checked, they didnt bring the Ad07 into the Country.
I had to resort to importing them, but, PM me your connection :)
The Mich Pilot sport are really, really good aswell, but, you pay the price for them. Somewhere around the $500 mark, each tyre for 235/45 17
The best budget tyre you will find, period, are the Federal 595SS. Good in the dry, not to good in the wet. Very stiff sidewall for their price, and they wear quite well. There not the quitest, or smoothest tyres, but, they are dam well grippy.

That's a bold statement. Rubbish compared to what?
I've run Bridgetone 050, Toyo Proxus 4, Falken, Pirelli Nero and PP2's on my current vehicle, all 18 inch, and the Michelins are easily superior to the other tyres that I have used. Maybe not as good as Toyo's in the wet but certainly better overall.

Rubbish compared to the Yokohama Advan AD07's I had on the car when I got it, and my missus Ralliart Colt has them aswell. They're truly a fantastic tyre. The PP2's under steer horribly in the wet like I said, but are OK in the dry. Definitely not worth the money I paid IMO.
For the AD07's try Tyres and More. http://www.tyresandmore.com.au/ $330 a corner fitted last I read on the EVO forums.

can't go wrong with HANKOOK k107 S1 evo. they are the only tyre under $300 that uses silica in they're construction.
these tyres are O.E on all the new RUF porches in germany. and volkswagon are starting to use them as O.E on all their high end performance/luxury cars.
plus the HANKOOK drift and time attack team do a lot of work with them.
on the road they're dead quite, and grip levels are up there with the HANKOOK RS-2 semi slick.
plus you also get the HANKOOK road hazard warranty. free replacement if you get a puncture with less than 30% wear.
does MAXXIS offer this?

There are very few tyres that don't have silica in their compound these days. A few very base products don't, but most others do. Many manufacturers don't state that their product contains silica anymore, but that doesn't mean its not included.

Alan
