Gday boys and girls. Long time reader.
Finally decided to join up due to particular other forums being political minefields and users taking things too far.
Go easy on me and tone down the death threats until I get settled in. :)
I am the owner of a dark metallic grey, 96 TE 6G72 24V, 4 speed failbox auto which I have recently had some problems with (major) and I will go into that after the rest of my mods list.
It's running full VRX driveline, super lows, remains front wheel drive. Port/polished head, a little bit of piston/rings work, extractors + full lukey 2 and a qaurter system, CAI and little bit of a screw around with the fuel map.
Should be hitting around 130kw take some, give some. Rolling on 18 inch AMG lightweights.
I had major issues with the box 6 months ago and its been off the road and stored at my parents house for the meantime. I have been inspired again as I turned it over for the first time in 5 or so months last weekend.
Started first go, still sounds like a dream at 6k.
Anyway, I was on the highway travelling at legal speeds when there was a thud and then a very uniform, consistant thud thud thud thud as I was driving, it was still picking up acceleration after this and I looked in the mirror and there was smoke pissing out everywhere so I pulled over and there was auto fluid everywhere. It got towed to a mechanic and they wanted to charge me more than the car is worth to fix it (literally). The gearbox dipstick now reads empty, it holds some oil until you put it into gear and then it purges everything.
I'm getting it towed to the wreckers shorty as they have quoted me $1000 for a second hand unit fitted and that should hold out another year or so, and I'm hoping thats what the problem is. The first mechanic mentioned something about the cooling system however I am unaware if he was refering to the engine or the transmission and he said he had to take the engine out to fix a seal. Can anybody tell me where the transmission cooling system is and if it is able to be remove it when dropping the box out the bottom.
Also has anyone in the greater brisbane area found somewhere that doesnt groan when asked to work on a magna.
The bitch at the wreckers was actually laughing at me the whole time from when the word magna was said onwards.
I agree with her...
Tell me a story.
