Gday boys and girls. Long time reader.
Finally decided to join up due to particular other forums being political minefields and users taking things too far.
Go easy on me and tone down the death threats until I get settled in. :)

I am the owner of a dark metallic grey, 96 TE 6G72 24V, 4 speed failbox auto which I have recently had some problems with (major) and I will go into that after the rest of my mods list.
It's running full VRX driveline, super lows, remains front wheel drive. Port/polished head, a little bit of piston/rings work, extractors + full lukey 2 and a qaurter system, CAI and little bit of a screw around with the fuel map.
Should be hitting around 130kw take some, give some. Rolling on 18 inch AMG lightweights.

I had major issues with the box 6 months ago and its been off the road and stored at my parents house for the meantime. I have been inspired again as I turned it over for the first time in 5 or so months last weekend.
Started first go, still sounds like a dream at 6k.
Anyway, I was on the highway travelling at legal speeds when there was a thud and then a very uniform, consistant thud thud thud thud as I was driving, it was still picking up acceleration after this and I looked in the mirror and there was smoke pissing out everywhere so I pulled over and there was auto fluid everywhere. It got towed to a mechanic and they wanted to charge me more than the car is worth to fix it (literally). The gearbox dipstick now reads empty, it holds some oil until you put it into gear and then it purges everything.
I'm getting it towed to the wreckers shorty as they have quoted me $1000 for a second hand unit fitted and that should hold out another year or so, and I'm hoping thats what the problem is. The first mechanic mentioned something about the cooling system however I am unaware if he was refering to the engine or the transmission and he said he had to take the engine out to fix a seal. Can anybody tell me where the transmission cooling system is and if it is able to be remove it when dropping the box out the bottom.

Also has anyone in the greater brisbane area found somewhere that doesnt groan when asked to work on a magna.
The bitch at the wreckers was actually laughing at me the whole time from when the word magna was said onwards.
I agree with her...

Tell me a story.

Sorry to hear about your exploding gearbox.
Try searching/post in the Queensland forum (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=18), someone there may be able to recommend a reputable Magna mechanic in Brisbane.
Auto boxes come up for sale every now and then, ask around.
Or, if you really like the car, go for a manual conversion. Now's the ideal opportunity :D

gday buddy, sounds like you have similar modifications to your engine as me... anyways i would suggest if you like manuals to convert to a manual, you can pick up a manual conversion kit for around 1000 - 2000 bucks depending where you go, but people over your way seem to find them cheaper and easier, then install should be around a 1000 as well... it is so worth it, thats what i have on the cards next, as my auto is holding me back 100% anyways be good to see some pics of your car as well

welcome mate, isn't the tranny cooler part of the main radiator ?
you might want to get a stand alone cooler for it anyway, fitted in front of the main radiator.
jeez, I'd want more than a year or two out of a second hand box from the wreckers !
but as lenda said, good time for a manual conversion, if your into that sort of thing.
anyway, enjoy your stay.

Sorry to ruin your fun but VRX brakes are the same as exec brakes.

VRX shocks are the same aswell, cept springs are 10mm lower.

Youd better not have paid too much to replace all of that gear.

Also, welcome to the club :)
