View Full Version : Alarm making wrong sounds?

Howdy All,

I have a 1994 TS Wagon - it's fitted with a remote alarm/immobilizer .. I have no idea what make or whatever / presuming it's aftermarket as it has the red flashing light thing on the drivers windscreen which is obviously an addon and seems to be a fairly common fit by dealers before they were sold.

The problem I have is I am fairly sure it should have a standard 1 beep / 2 beep lock/unlock sound. Now it's 1 beep to unlock but locking produces a series of rapid beeps (roughly 7). I had been around this particular car a few years ago and think that was the case but my memory could be fuzzy.

ISTR this meant you left the door open or similar .. but I'm not sure on this .. problem is thats not the case, door light opens with doors and turns off when they are shut and isn't on when this happens. It seems to operate fine in this mode - doesn't go off randomly (when locked) - all the doors lock, etc.

Anyone know what this series of beeps could be indicating? It also occasionally likes to go off if you leave the car unlocked (but not all the time).

Of note was the drivers door switch was broken - I thought it wasn't working at all but turns out as you opened the door it activated but once it fully travelled it turned the door open detection off again .. I've since swapped this with one of the rear doors thinking maybe it didn't think the door was opened long enough or something but that didn't help .. only reason I noticed the momentary working of the switch was I replaced my interior light with an LED which lights up much quicker and actually flashed as I opened the door.

Any advice appreciated!

Thanks,
Trent

LED interior light wont matter but that door switch might. Take it out and then arm the alarm and see what happens. If it is ok, then you have to replace the switch. Could also be the boot light switch or the bonnet switch. You need to check all of them. Good Luck

sounds like alarm is;nt reseting correctly

the extra beeps or light flashes is to tell you that the car had points triggered while armed.

as above you prob have a faulty switch somewhere or just a persistent thief.

if its more then the normal amount of beeps then its the alarm telling you that you've left a door open
if you had a manual it would tell you what door it was
but yeah as said just check all door switches but i think it might be you boot one
does the alarm appear to be in working order apart from the extra beeps?

Yes it all appears to work .. except as I said occasionally if I leave it unlocked after 5+ minutes the alarm will go off .. but not all the time.

Weird thing is the door open light on the dash operates for all doors .. this the alarm have a separate sense switch or something?

if the car came with central locking then the alarm should be tapped into that
the only new switch that is put in is the switch for the bonnet as the stock alarm doesnt detect that the bonnet it open

Ahh so there is likely a bonnet switch?

I never thought to check about that ... I'll have to poke around and see if I can find one!

Success! Thanks heaps Mr_Roberto - turns out the switch is at the front left (facing the car) and the top of it had broken off so there's nothing to push down when you close the bonnet. If I push it in with a key, the car locks normally.

It wasn't obvious just looking but then I chased from where the speaker is (which is stupidly loud when the bonnet is open, hahah) - and there was a wire running in up to the switch.

Case closed! Just have to find a new switch or superglue a bit onto the top of it (but with bonnet forcing force .. that's likely to break again I guess.. I'll rip it out try replace the whole bit and/or switch) :)
