Just back from the Mechanic for the rego & got him to do the welsch plugs while he was under it...

Turns out i have the old cracked block syndrome (between 2&3? - near the oil filter).
He's put in some Chemi-Weld & its stopped.

I drive maybe 150k's a month - so just wanna keep it going for as long as possible.
I cant find any product info on the chemi weld & just need to know what i can do to help it last - i.e. change fluid, flush it after it seals etc etc...

Maybe a product sheet would be good or the website of the manufacturer?

hmmmm... well if you hardly drive it it doesnt matter, but that chemi-weld stuff is bad for a more daily car. when I bought my first TP the owner had tried to hide its cracked head by using chemi weld. when I found out (after getting home from the 1hr drive to pick it up on a 42degree day) I was furious. he gave me some of my money back. anyway, when I got the radiator recon'd the radiator guy told me it was over 70% blocked due to the chemi weld in it.

but, if you are hardly using the car it would probably be ok to use to run it as long as you can, how long do you normally drive it? cos I woulddnt reccomend a long drive with chemi weld to hold it up :P

normally not over 1/2hr trips at a time.

How does the stuff work?
Once its sealed the crack - shouldnt i drain it all out & replace with coolant fluid again?
or does it need to keep circulating & re-seal the thing all the time?

I dont know exactly how it works, ll I know is that is blocks small gaps, such as a crack in a head gasket or something, or radiator cores...

I cant answer the question about the draining/recirculating cos I'm not really sure on that one sorry mate.

I just added it to my TP, so far so good, a mate who's a mechanic said to leave it in for about 2 weeks or a few hundred k's, until symptoms disappear then flush the system and refill with coolant.

Chemi Weld is bad, and worse on an occasional driver. This stuff reacts with air and sets, this is how it blocks the cores on radiators and also leaves a coating of crap all over the engine internals

Just make sure you flush it soon and you should be OK:tired:

I had the dreaded TM block crack. realistically, you'll need a new block. mine only lasted a week on chemiweld.
