A couple of months back, I posted a wanted to buy for a leather or Ralliart steering wheel. Didn't get much of a response (Icarian kindly pointed one out to me but I was too slow).

I reckon my price range of up to $125 + P&P is a bit low now. Looking at the Ralliart wheels on ebay, they're crossing the $150 mark now and I'm not really willing to go higher than my price. I've also decided that, while the Ralliart's look real good, I'd need to dye it black as the red would stick out badly.

Question; how good is a leather steering wheel cover? I read this article http://autospeed.com/cms/title_Complementing-Leather/A_109733/article.html and understand that this example is a fairly involved process. But, can I buy a decent leather cover that I can fit myself at a SCA or Autobarn? I've had a quick look in past weeks (not seriously) but they all seem foam things in garish colours.

I want to have a good look around tomorrow; if anyone can point out some places to look at in Melbourne, that would be appreciated. Or, if anyone has a surplus leather wheel going inexpensive, that would be good too :)

Regards, Tony

The red on the ralliart wheel doesn't stick out that much, I was gonna get mine dyed, but don't mind it anymore, if anything, breaks up the sea of grey in my interior. You could also get a 2nd hand wheel and get it retrimmed in leather, wouldn't be more than your price of $125 I would think.

VR-Xes etc came with plain black leather steering wheels. They're not as comfy as the Ralliart wheel, but they're leather nonetheless. Perhaps trall the Ralliart wheel thread to find someone who upgraded to a Ralliart wheel and see if they'd sell their original wheel? I'd offer you mine, but I'm a compulsive hoarder :P

While the Ralliart wheel is bright, I don't think it looks out of place in most 3rd gen interiors. Plus, even for $150, they're a damn comfy wheel. If a good leather cover is $50-$100, I think it'd be worth the extra for the Ralliart wheel.

I doubt Supercheap etc would keep them in stock since they'd be custom sized to suit individual steering wheels. Perhaps they could order one in? Alternatively, have you tried eBay?
